  1. As of this morning I've dropped 20 pounds since Fathers Day. I'm sure my weight will bounce around 200 for the next week before I can officially say I've hit my goal. But I'm really close. And close to setting a new goal of 195 by mid Oct. Just to see if I can. The first 10 pounds were easy. The next five took as long as ten did. The last five have taken much much longer. I have no illusions about 5 more. But I wouldn't mind having something that resembles washboard abs at 61. That might take more than another five but not much more.

Just remembered that I'll be in Vermont all next week on business. Ugh. That will probably add weight. Maple syrup bitches! mmm mmm mmm

Now I'm up to 15 lbs lost and 8% body fat. I'll have to measure myself soon but my pants say I've lost more inches.

Fats are my friends. But so are carbohydrates and protein.

We work well as a team.

I try to eat a lot of each macro. Or I don't try. Some weeks I consume in 45% fat, other weeks it's closer to a third. Works alright. It's mostly peanut butter. My main goal now is to get enough protein and run a bit of a surplus. I was trying to cut, but after getting down to a pale six pack (with the right lighting), I've decided to take a more measured approach and go for a slow bulk.

Speaking of which, I just got back to lifting after two weeks of vacation binge eating and drinking. My ass (along with most everything else) is sore as hell.

I'm not losing weight by the numbers...hmm.
But I'm losing it in my arms, legs and face...seems to be the extremities.
I'm firming up on the core/stomach area...chest is getting better. Arms getting big again.
    Endurance is increasing. Posture improving.

I've found a wonderful "machine" at the gym...but not really a machine.
You know those hoop games where you shoot the ball at the basket and several keep returning to you over a period of time???
Well this is like this...BUT, you've got a couple of heavy medicine balls...about soccer ball size.
You take one with your feet under a padded bar...lean back until you're flat with your arms over your head.
Then you do a kind of a situp...but you bring the ball up over your head launching it at a target.
The ball goes down a curved back...ready for you to grab another one...and repeat.
DAMN...15 of those give a SERIOUS crunch.
And 3 sets...you really hit your stomach.

I start my core sets with this... (I always do core sets, everytime)
Crunch, obliques, leg lifts, lower back, etc...
It makes up a quarter of my routine.
15 minute cardio (3 different, 5 minutes each...it's not as boring and tedious to me)
I tend to do my real cardio with games and outside sports on the weekend.
    Then Core
Then I randomly pick a variety of things, usually focusing on a muscle group. Hit it from all angles.

I'm lifting faster and lighter now...I don't want to get big...I'm already big, I just want to get fit, tone...
Seems to be working, I'm getting results fast.

As a reward for going to the gym more often I've lost a few pounds, and my knee is swelling up again... Biking seems to be it's nemesis more than anything else.

My waist is up to 97 cm, the biggest of all time! I still weigh 94 kgs. though. This is what happens when you recover from surgery for three months and the then go on holiday for two weeks. ACK!

I'm back down below 230 again. I'm trying to lose slower this time, about a pound a week. It seems easier to keep up with the calorie count, so far.

I got told I look "fit" today. By my sister, but I'll take it.

Weight-wise, I'm at 163 lbs. I don't think I've added fat so that is (hopefully) muscle growth.

I should probably invest in one of those fancy scales that measures body fat. Or maybe just a set of calipers.

After several months of consistenly working out, I still don't want to do the cardio. I have to make myself do it, unlike lifting which I can do whether I feel good or not... If only the cardio wasn't boring as hell.

  14. Know exactly what you're talking about. Cardio can be incredibly boring. Where I work out has TVs but generally, watching a program that I don't care about isn't any help. Listening to music isn't enough of a distraction for me either. I've seen people read but that's nearly impossible of some machines, especially the type that I use. I have found that surfing the net on my iPad is a great distraction. Yesterday I did an hour. I was listening to music and surfing the net. After a while I played solitaire on it. Time passed by soon enough. You may want to look into that Cayvmann but one word of caution, surfing for porn in public is considered in poor taste. :p

I know it's a tough concept, but I've heard people doing cardio outside. :)

Have you considered cardio-based weight routines?

300 Workout: The muscle building workout used by the cast of the movie | Men's Health

It doesn't have to be this ( unless you're cray-cray), but the principle might interest you: muscle conditioning and fat burning all at once. Kettlebells are awesome for this sort of thing; high-rep weight training with full-body movements.

As far as I'm concerned all my weight routines are cardio ( lots of exercise gurus disagree ). Lifting heavy things multiple times keeps my heart rate up. I move from one exercise to the next in time to keep it up, just enough rest to be able to handle the next movement with control. The problem with lighter weight ultra high volume is my knees. Too much bending and they swell up. This also happens on the bike to a smaller extent.

I used to love to do barbell complexes, which is a barbell equivalent to most of the kettle bell drills I've seen.

Our trainer's challenge this month is "Squatober". On top of whatever else we are doing, knock out 40 squats every day.
