I'm on a hemp craze again: hemp hearts in my cereal; hemp protein powder in my smoothies.

This shit it da bomb. I can't believe I had wandered away from it.

In other news, I'm currently in the middle of a coffee-drinking binge, and it makes me feel like shit. I don't know why I keep jumping back into the bean, but here I am. (Okay, I do know: caffeine.) Once I get through the beans I currently have at home, I'm going to make the conscious effort to only drink a maximum of one espresso beverage per week. I tend to do better on one or two servings of espresso vs. a cup of brewed coffee.

Discovered a new channel on Pandora: hard rock strength training. Lots of fun stuff to make you want to beat someone's head in. Along with that, I started shadow boxing with ten-pound free weights. Kicked my ass quick, fast, and in a hurry. But if I can keep it up, I can hopefully transform this Sta-Puft Marshmallow Man physique into something I don't mind seeing in the mirror.

  6. I'll bet it did kick your ass. Have to be careful to use each arm equally, though. Not sure my right shoulder would take the stress but it is something I might try. Interesting.

You need to be careful with this sort of thing. Punching with no pushback resistance (i.e., a target that receives your impact) can introduce risks of injury, especially with added weight. Be careful not to overextend repeatedly or to exert too much forward force at the extension end of the rep, as it puts a lot of stress in the joints and musculature in your shoulders, arms, and upper back.

Mind you, I don't know if you have any martial training—maybe you know what you're doing. Maybe you're going slowly. I don't know.

As someone who's been training almost exclusively with punching and kicking over most of the past year, punching with weights isn't something I'd do myself.

Sound advice. I am making my movements slower than when I'm working the heavy bag, and I'm not flinging my arms to their full extension. So it's fairly well controlled. And I'm sure as hell not going to do it every night.

Oh boy, another ratio. The numbers nerd in me loves ratios!:D

Let's see... waist 60cm, height 154cm ratio is uh... about .39
Waist to hip ratio is .68 and my BMI was 2.8 (12th percentile)
    Total cholesterol/HDL ratio is 2.9:)

I should live just about forever!

Tonight is my first kickboxing class in about a month. I've finally recovered from a nasty sinus cold followed by a nasty, lingering chest cold.

I'm going to start focusing on keeping my immune system up and running. I don't want to go through that again.

My SO tends to bring everything home with her. I must have been missing some of what's out there somehow.

Dang dude. I don't know if you've checked with a Dr., but super low BMIs are generally not healthy, and for women, drastically increase risk for osteoporosis.

Or, I could have done the math and surmised that you don't, in fact, weight 16 lbs.

I did ten pushups today...barely. I decided I need to start doing them regularly. I remember some of you talking about the 100 pushups challenge thing... is this site the one you used?

I haven't been running. Boo. But I did swim some laps today, as well as straight up treading water for about twenty minutes or so. And we went for an evening walk about an hour ago. Felt good.

Knee is feeling better. I rode a stationary bike for 10 minutes yesterday with no problems. Could have gone longer but don't want to push too hard, too soon. Benching went well today considering the three weeks I took off from working out.

15 minutes on the bike today. Felt pretty good. In fact much better than pre-surgery. I also did my PT on the machines today. I was itching to put on some weight, but I behaved. I have physical therapy this afternoon also.

OK my story. I'm a big guy. 6'2" and weight too much. I've always been big but I carry the weight all over and people don't seem to realize how heavy I am. Over the past few years though I've gotten much heavier. So I've made a commitment to myself now to start working the weight off. I've tried in the past but always went out too hard and ended up hurting myself, pulling something, getting shin splints, etc. So this time I've purchased a heart rate monitor that helps me keep in the right work out zones. It also provides me with weekly goals. I've only done it for a week but so far goals have been met. Let's hope I can keep this up as I stepped on the scale the other day and I was up another 5 pounds from what I thought I was at. Speaking of walking..I need to go out now so I can be back before my work meetings in a few hours.
