Opinion | What Trump Doesn’t Get About Conservatism

On this 4th Of July...an article from a conservative.
Saying how Trump doesn't get it...the principles of being a conservative. (and I've got a good side of me too that favors these ideas)

The current GOP has also deviated from them.
Catering to the current Prez due to his populism and to simply stay in power.
Then again, they've sold their souls to do this already...to gain, to leverage, to stain, to keep on top and push in their agenda with no compromise.

I'd rather see them going back to some honor and respect...doing what's needed to leverage good ideas and values.
Not just posturing and selling out.

The Dems too have lost their way, their passion, to even balance out some of their own agenda with some of the better concepts and ideas from the conservative side.
(they did this with Obamacare...which was thought up in a consservative think-tank)

We need to get back to being better.
and not just catering to many's raw anger and simplistic ideas.

Both progressive and conservative values are needed.

GOP leader resigns after Trump-Putin summit: “A matter of conscie...

After Putin Meeting, Trump Voters Mostly Dig In. But Cracks Are Showing.

hmm...we actually see some integrity from the GOP
There statement in the 1st article from The Weekly Standard and other conservative media AGAINST what Trump did.

    However, is it enough??
Trump will NEVER give up...it's his nature to do it until he's dragged away kicking and screaming.

Right now...even as before, the GOP as a whole will likely end up being complacent...and allowing it all to continue.
Statements are worth less than toilet paper to wipe your ass with...because it's all virtual...momentary, noise.

    The key is ACTION

The problem is, there are too many that are cowardly to do something.
AND too many that have too much to lose and too much to gain...supporting and allying themselves with Trump's agenda...the power, the influence and more
Much less the Xenophobic and Racist dark side of the party. (a reality...many are in denial of...remember, they didn't act AND they supported Trump when he explained away NAZIS...or The Wall, or, or, or...)

    Perhaps...perhaps this a start.
    But I doubt it.
As I said before...it's going to get worse and it's going to get stranger.

I can only hope it will change before there is tragic damage.

Because it has already damaged our standing in the world.
Everything we worked for internationally...over decades. We bitch-slapped our allies. We allow evil nations to gain.

All for the ego of one man.
    We've been here before...

And ya wondered how they allowed it back then...well, you're seeing it...NOW.
Question is...whether they'll stop it before masses are killed.
    We've already separated children...hurt children

Will the GOP wrap the flag around that???

I can only hope they find their soul.
Their old-school soul with integrity and honor.
    And act
Act with the values they acclaim to.

Opinion | Desperately Seeking Principled Republicans

    Yes, please
I voted for GOP often in the past.
But the past some years...they've abandoned their ethics.

And even many of the conservatives mentioned in the article agree.
They need to regain their integrity.

Anything for the win...is not a win.

‘This is your fault’: GOP senators clash over shutdown inside private luncheon
    https://wapo.st/2DyzNDG

You made your bed, you lie in it.
    Emphasis on “lie”

They had all the power to pass this their ways just a couple of months ago

This is why the Dems gained
    No one was doing anything

Only now they decide to take a stand for a silly last minute want from the prez.

    Now the nation is suffering
    And especially government workers are

Thank goodness I got out at the beginning
It was getting weird even then...tense.

The GOP has got to get its act together
    Do something, don’t just posture
    Do something good and productive
    For ALL

Living in Alaska we think a lot more about the Coast Guard because many of us family or friends in the fishing industry.
Right now the poor bastards aren't getting paid and that is evil since they are risking their lives out on the water.
While I sympathies with TSA agents being forced to work, by in large, they aren't in any danger while the Coast Guard are doing rescues and sea operation.
And if one of them dies out there, their family won't get benefits.

If Coast Guard members are killed during shutdown, their families won't get benefits - CNNPolitics

'Biggest wimp ever to serve as president': Conservatives bash Trump on ending shutdown without border money

Ok, while I'm not sympathetic to Trump for trying a stunt which he could have easily avoided...and could have gotten approved earlier with full control of Congress.
This is ONE of the problems with the GOP these days...they eat their own.

Trump finally did the responsible thing and opened back up the government (even if temporarily...we'll see in 3 weeks)

Many want an ALL or nothing scenario...no matter what the damage is.
Back seat driving while not caring about the consequences.
    Only that THEY are right.
Only THEY get what they want.
    Quick to blame
    Quick to shoot

It's not only much of the GOP leadership that is being irresponsible and unrealistic
But many of their base is being completely respective of what impact anything is.

The don't have rose colored glasses on
    They have blood colored glasses.

    People - be adults.
    Think
Reality isn't about what you want like a child...it's what works, what impacts everyone, what the consequences are.

Your way or the highway isn't a winning MO.
It's not how you play the game.

    Yes, Trump can throw tantrums
    But so can his voters.

Ideas and methods from ALL sides may work.
You just have to figure out which is the best for ALL.
What will work for a LONG time.

    NOT just for a "win"
    That's not winning.
    That's just being petty.

Now because of this...Trump and the GOP leadership will go to even more extremes.
And that's just insanity...the road to hell.

Then again...they don't care where we go.
They just want the grandiose trophy for now.

I notice in that article there no comments from ELECTED conservatives. Namely the ones who have to explain to business owners why airlines are cancelling flights. I firmly believe delayed and cancelled flights was a major, or at least a large, straw that broke broke Trump's orchestrated power play.

History will mark how many Republicans shy from Trump’s extremism

I have voted Republican before...but lately, mostly I've been disgusted with the GOP overall.
There hasn't been much integrity and extreme views have taken over...or at least allowed or catered to...in the essence of any means to an end for "our side"
I do wonder if they can save themselves?
I still do enjoy listening to those pundits who are the more rational and speak with integrity, they have an interesting perspective..
I wonder if they can finally convince others to back off the ledge.

This started over 25 years ago with Gingrich. This is nothing new with the Republican party. They have been complete shitheels placing party over country for decades, and many of us recognized it back then. And they are mostly on the wrong side of history. Glad people are finally waking up to it.

Nope, the GOP is Trump's now...they rise and fall with him.
And ethics & integrity too it seems.

Acquiescence to Trump is now the GOP’s defining trait

On the critically endangered list: The Principled Republican

Right now, it seems as if a solid 33% of the nation is staying with them no matter what.
With about 10% that fluctuates back and forth.

    Is that enough to win??
It depends on who shows up at the polls.

The Dems aren't certainly going to run someone that seemed to piss off the waiverers as next time. (as Hillary seemed to)
And the DoD and DoJ are onto the Russians now with election manipulation.

I guess the GOP is willing to risk another Dem wave...or pissed off at them wave...whichever reason.

BTW, if y’think I’m being a “liberal” shit or naysayer
I’m not the only one saying this

This is from a Republican strategist...
GOP Strategist Disappointed By Reception to Trump’s ‘Unhinged’ CPAC Address: Republican Party is Dead

What do you do when those who promoted your party say it’s basically dead???

Now frankly, I think if Trump goes
The party just reverts back to the old line
People’s memories are short and they’ll just believe in whichever spin is given.
And the politicians will just flip back, explaining away or ignoring their past positions, statements and alliances

Certain politicians benefit by those who only recall the here and now.
Really, it’s just about name recognition and tribes.

As Democrats Agonize, G.O.P. Is at Peace With Doing Nothing on Mueller’s Findings

Will this come back on them?? Likely so.
Not treating an infection has serious consequences...fever, amputation, death.

Now you know how England could allow Germany to run with a war.
Complacency and even complicit - let's evil, tyranny and just true abuse to happen and grow.

Frankly, most of the GOP now is about party and power...NOT nation & people.
While I liked much of their principles in the past...currently, they don't have any principles.

The Dems got to get this man out of office...put him in jail.
    Because that's where criminals belong.

And if you don't think he hasn't done many crimes, you're fooling yourself.

No one is above the law.
Even the prez...even people in your own party.

The problem is that he is delivering for their single issue voters. It isn't close to the efficiency an actual politician would have been able to achieve, but it has been bad enough. The GOP still controls a lot of state houses and governorships, and are in control of the judiciary now for the next few decades.

The GOP formed a coalition of rural voters who want their guns, want to be able to pollute because it won't impact them, don't like minorities, and want the law thrown at criminals with darker skin colors. Then there are the religious voters who want control over what a woman chooses to do if she gets pregnant and can overlook and forgive everything else. They haven't gotten over losing the religious cold war in Vietnam and the Roe v Wade decision. Then you have the Rich republicans who hate paying taxes and giving benefits to the "moochers". They want tax breaks, less government oversight, and loopholes.

Trump may not be as effective as Cruz or someone else would have been, but there have been few defections away from the conservative lifestyle in the past 2 years. I would guess that people dying and teenagers turning 18 is more of an impact than people being persuaded to change. And I worry that people moving away from the red states to escape is causing any gains to be lost to try and fix it with the electoral college.

Five Times Lindsey Graham Made a Fool of Himself During the Barr Hearing

    Pathetic
The GOP has no integrity left for the most part.

Would you believe they brought up Benghazi and the Clinton emails during this??
    Have they no shame?

Don't they want to defend this country???
Ironic when the supposed "liberals" are more about defense and saving the country from foreign corruption then the supposed "conservatives"
