at one level, that's correct. at another, the republicans have been in bed with neo-fascist pieces of shit like limbaugh for years. they've benefitted from his radio show, etc. so it's a bit disengenuous to make such a hard distinction. they've been a symbiosis.

the republicans should be far more irrelevant than they currently are.
i see nothing good that has come from their power since the reagan period--nothing good came from neo-liberalism, nothing good from the attending herbert hoover idiocy about deficits and the demonization of the state...nothing good from its systematic legitimation of racism, nothing good from the creation of conditions for the largest transfer of wealth into the hands of the top 1% of income holders ever recorded, nothing from their military keynesian approach to overall policy except increased profits for the military/security industrial network. nothing good has come from the neo-con "realist" approach to foreign policy.

the right has been a disaster no matter how you look at it.
the right richly deserves the oblivion it is heading toward.

The latest wingnut conspiracy theory is that the Obama administration is engaged in a "conspiracy" to purchase all available ammunition as a form of gun control, making ammo much less available to law abiding gun owners.

It has been debunked by numerous sources, included the right wing Breitbart.com .

But facts be damned, the conspiracy has resulted in legislation proposed by two of the believers.

As the immigration reform debate moves forward, Tea Party Senator Mike Lee from Utah who opposes any path to citizenship for undocumented workers does support allowing hiring some of those folks -- cooks, waiters, butlers, housekeepers, governessess, maids, valets, baby sitters, janitors, laundresses, furnacemen, care-takers, handymen, gardeners, footmen, grooms, and chauffeurs of automobiles for family use"-- but never giving them a way to gain citizenship.

See, this is why I end up often not voting for the GOP by default.
My disgust at things like this...while I don't favor the Dems, the rank smell of unnecessary and distracting attacks which disrupt government nauseates me and turns me off from the GOP.

    STFU, get back to work.
Find it, fix it, get back to work.
Stop posturing, get back to work.

This is what I hated about a simple blow-job or affair mucking up our whole system.
Whether or not you think it was disrespectful to Hillary or potentially his position, there is no real reason to bring everything to a screeching halt just to caterwaul.

I'm sick of these plays...they need to get their act together.
Win the game by points, thinking smart and sweat...not by fouling your opponent.

The GOP is now a party of saboteurs and provocateurs. I'll abhor the day they form a government if they do so in their current state. Their refusal to compromise under Obama should be an indication of what they'd be like in power.

What would a post–G. W. Bush Republican government look like in the wake of the party's modes of operation under Obama?

    It makes my skin crawl.

It seems to me that the only reason why they still have any legitimacy is because America is a two-party state. And it's because of this that the Republicans could be running the show in a few years.

After all, even in Canada a conservative government can act as corrupt bullies and still manage to consolidate power in an election.

Some shit has hit the fan on the Benghazi controversy: Story on Benghazi leaks starts to unravel - The Maddow Blog

"Republicans who were leaking these emails that have been shared with Congress didn't just do that. They decided to fabricate portions of an email, and make up portions of an email in order to fit a political narrative. I'm not surprised by it because we've seen it again and again."

Ah, one of my favorite Shakespearean plays, "Much Ado About Nothing"

Man, but this play has been overdone over the years in D.C.

So the topic & method has gone on since before even "The Poet's" days.

Oh, and they're trying to repeal "Obamacare." Yes, again.

As The New York Times put it:

The fabrication of a scandal.... The road to impeachment?

“Look, [impeachment is] not something I’m seeking. It’s not the endgame. It’s not what we’re playing for. I was simply asked: 'Is that within the realm of possibilities?' And I would say ‘yes.’ I'm not willing to take that off the table."

    And speaking of which...
Here another insanity...the barbarians at the gate attacks. Ravenous hordes, foaming at the mouth.
It seems that some leaders in the GOP note the propensity of their members on doing this.

It is SO irritating. It is SO wasteful. And it disgusts me.
PLEASE, this stuff should be about doing what's right...not about constantly taking down your opponent. Raving at their potential harm or demise.
Sure, the Dems are wishy washy spineless back biters...but this shit actually makes them favorable by comparison.

Why can't our politicians just STFU, roll up their sleave, get to work and try to the right thing???

  16. Meanwhile, Congress gets to create the illusion of working hard while nothing of actual benefit to the nation is accomplished.

I think people are starting to figure it out.

But it's been going on for a long time, this quote in point...

This thread is interesting in that we have liberals ranting about the problems with the GOP as if the GOP is out of sync with the people who actually are the GOP. It is a given that opposition political parties will have core differences with the GOP - but that is the nature of politics. So what is it that you folks want? Is this thread just so that you can vent about your frustrations? Are you trying to persuade people who belong to the GOP to change party affiliation? Is the target independents? What is it?

And what is the liberal obsession with Rush Limbaugh. Like have pointed out in the past, this is a AM radio talk show entertainer. Who the hell listens to AM radio??? Who do you think he is influencing? This is a classic example of "inside the belt-way types" in an echo chamber - i.e. he is important because we say he is important, therefore he is important....????? Five years ago, I listened to AM talk radio - when in my car - when on a long trip. Now I connect my Iphone and listen to Podcasts on a variety of subjects and my music. Does Limbaugh even have a Podcast, I have never seen it listed in the Itunes store?

The thread points out the extreme to which members of the Republican Party, particularly the Tea Party wing, have taken the party in recent years -- from social issues to fiscal issues to the concept that compromise is a dirty word.

And the impact of the extremism is demonstrated in the lowest polling numbers for the Party in our lifetime.

As to Limbaugh, he is the like crazy uncle who keeps on giving with his outrageous, incendiary, inflammatory remarks some of which many other family members (republicans) support and regurgitate at every opportunity while other family members cringe, but wont speak out against him for fear of being cut out of his will.

Same applies to crazy Aunt Sarah (Palin)

If you remember me from the early TFP days, you'll remember I was a dyed in the wool conservative. Was, in the past tense, meaning the GOP has completely abandoned the big tent policy and has lost me for the foreseeable future. They just lost in the biggest margin in 24 years, and their answer is to go even crazier and abandon even more people.

They are the modern version of the Dixicrats, who were scooped up by the GOP in their Southern Strategy. Unless they abandon their base they will lose in larger margins for the next 20 years. If they abandon their base, they will hold as much strength as the Green Party for the next 10 years. In the mean time, they are a Southern Regional Party, with a few tentacles in states that actually matter.
