You have every right to be pissed. I would be and I would still try to get it fixed or replaced at least at a discount. I can't afford to buy a TV every year.

Gotta get up at 3: 15 and work 12 hours tomorrow. Fair to say that I am a blue collar man. I have no idea anymore what's going on at work. Pulling OT down like a mad man and daily there's talk about our new GM cutting more people , there's no work on their machines. All cnc operators are on 40 hrs a week now . The investment group that bought us 2 years ago just bought their 5th shop and plan to have sales close to 100 million. Holland Hall Park Place New York. Them people don't know or care about me, or anyone but themselves. I liked it better when the owner walked through and called me by name and shook my hand.

Who says, "well, it's definitely pneumonia, but we won't know if it's a fungal infection, asthma, or cancer without a trans-tracheal wash, which will run you about $1500" and just laughs nervously. WHO DOES THAT?!

I'm about all cried out for today and $700 more in debt for tests and meds for The Beast. Waiting for some other special radiologist to review the films. Then more blood work for another $300 and more meds.
I need more sleep and a hug.

DAKA DOING VERY NICELY, THANK YOU

That's it for SHARP PRODUCTS, repair is $540.....(the set cost $599 13 months and a week ago, 12 month warranty)

Repair tech. told me that they see more SHARP TV's in for repair than for instance LG, or Samsung....
He says the SHARP TV's are all junk Chinese components....(others are Japanese?)
FORTUNATELY, AMEX doubles the manufacturers warranty and they are going to credit the cost to us...so, I'm shopping for a 55" (to replace the 43')
FOR SURE I don't care what the sales people say, or the difference in price...******FOR SURE SMART CAN KISS MY ASS****
    LG or Samsung.....for me

@DAKA, the higher the alphabet letter the better the picture. Sams club doubles the warranty and Vizio has been a good product. My Smart TV is great , it's the manufacturer that you picked.

Just going to share my personal anecdote. My 32 inch Sony trinitron died in 2008 with maybe 10 years of service. So I bought a sharp aquos. 46 inch, 1080p, 120 hz refresh, 4 hdmi ports, etc. A really nice tv at the time $2300 shipped from Sharp. I kept the box to it as well. The tv moved twice in moving trucks across the continental divide, and from my girlfriend's apartment to our current house. Still going strong, and not a single dead pixel. It has been wall mounted 3 times as well. If it died I could get a new tv, but I can't justify while it still works.

Some particular models have inherent design flaws (less likely) and/or use certain poorly manufactured components (more likely). The company might switch plants in China with a change on Quality Control. Some products have 'made on Monday morning or Friday afternoon' issues. Which explains why Joe might brag about a certain brand while Bob curses it.

We've had very good luck with Magnavox (we purchased the store display model which lasted 15 years) and Phillips (at one time, maybe still are, the same company). But the way companies sell off divisions, merge, rebadge brands (these days Sharp and Phillips could both be made at the same Fuk Yu factory in China), etc., it's almost impossible to say Brand A is better than Brand B based on past experience. Maytag appliances are a great example; they were once known for having more durable engines, but these days inferiors brands are rebadged for Maytag.

I'm totally against cheap consumer products from GE because my in-laws had many problems with the ones they bought, yet GE makes expensive hospital electronics (go figure!).

Research, research, and research. Note--My wife doesn't understand why I'm against impulse purchases, esp electronics.

    I'm tired of feeling nauseous.

I don't know if I'm overly tired, worn, sick or my anxieties are catching up to me.
    Or all of the above...

  18. My GE clock radio is more than 35 years old. The volume pot could use cleaning, but it's working great, otherwise.

This either confirms your first paragraph, or contradicts your GE statement. The sleep timer comes in handy when the Tigers are playing out west.

I don't think that it's a stretch to say that the GE products of today, or even some of them from 25 years ago, have little to do with the GE products from 35 years ago, other than the GE name.

We have small GE AM/FM radio that is going strong after at least 28 years; over that time period my in-laws had at least three GE products crap out within two years. I'd say that, along with your statement, indicates GE offered some good consumer electronics, and some bad ones.

I'm going to stick with not buying GE consumer electronics, which means I'll miss some good ones priced right, and some bad ones that wouldn't be worth buying at half the price.

For whatever it's worth, many large conglomerates like GE have vastly different standards between various divisions. GE airplane engines, GE wind turbines, GE light bulbs, GE kitchen appliances, and GE electronics might as well not even be made by the same company. In fact, in many consumer items, GE devices aren't even made by GE, they just license their name out to whoever will pay for it. In other cases, (like their home appliance division recently, which was sold to the Chinese company Haier) they completely sell off various divisions to other companies who do whatever they like with the name in that segment. A company like GE could be fantastic in one segment and completely awful in another.

To be clear, I'm not necessarily picking on GE, the same is true of many corporate giants. They are just a good example because they lend their name to so many various products, and because they were already mentioned.
