I've signed up for overtime four weeks straight, with no results. I filled in the sheet this week out of habit, without really thinking about it.

So, OF COURSE the night we actually have something fun planned, they approve all overtime. Damn it.

I maintain that I reserve the right to complain about my MIL and her cooking.

My husband contends that I do it too often, when really I think it's just the product of being at social events where I told the anecdote of the Unsweetened Rhubarb Pie.

I think complaining about mother in laws is a classic comedic trope. My husband thinks I'm too harsh.

He's also way more worked up about this than expected, and all I did was send him a video on how to heat a pan, as his mother has repeatedly complained that she either heats the pan too much or not enough.

    Jeez.

Folks that know nothing about networking; but want to argue networking with me drive me crazy.

I don't write code or RFCs, complaining to me that it ought to do something that it cannot is pointless.

My father, rest his soul, at the age of 82 bought the windows systems administrator's handbook and tried to learn everything he could about administering a windows computer. I'm sure he did this so he wouldn't have to ask me for help all the time, although I didn't mind. But he would insist that "it ought to be this way!" Well, it isn't that way. I agree, the behavior is stupid and counter-intuitive, but that's the behavior. Call Bill Gates if you don't like it.

My favorite episode was when mom called, "Your dad needs some help," which she followed with a deep and profound sigh.

    "What's up, mom?"

"Your dad's computer won't start up. Can you come over?"

"Sure, mom. I'll be there after work."

So I pop by and ask dad what happened. He said "I don't know. I was cleaning up my hard disk because it was filling up."

Dad had like a 20 gig hard drive and his definition of filling up was that there was more than about 5 gig in use.

"OK, dad. What were you doing to clean up your hard drive?"

    "Just deleting some files."

    "What files?"

"I don't know. They were those dll things. They were taking up too much space. Why should I need those dll things...?"

    "All of them?"

"Yes, all of them. Did I need those?"

Why is it that on the day we leave on vacation, my husband has to be as slow as he can possibly be getting going? This is ridiculous. We're supposed to leave in half an hour and he's just getting in the shower. I packed the car almost entirely by myself, and then he wanted me to cook him breakfast. I'm not happy right now.

I was watching a thing on youtube (confidence level: it was a thing on youtube) that said the reason the ending to I Am Legend got changed in the film is because test audiences didn't like that the hero turned out to be a monster kidnapping and ruthlessly experimenting on the mutants. I don't know what to do with this information. What the hell did they think the title meant?

I've seen it other places as well so you can count the information as true.
They have the original ending on the DVD where Will Smith realizes that the mutants aren't monsters and comes to grips with it.
All I can say is that movies should never be cut based on the reaction of test audiences.

    My brain is on overload.
I'm almost completely at my limit. My attention span and anxiety are dueling. I need a nap, but I'm going to run later.

Turns out that the cpu fan was making a racket and touching the bottom hard drive. Instead of $600 in hard drives, I got away with a $5 fan (with $10 shipping).

It makes me sad when my daughter is sick and super crabby. But today I've gotten over the mom guilt and just let her play with the tablet and watch tv all day, with occasional breaks to consume various food-like substances and to use the toilet. She seems to be thriving with this schedule. I like having her beside me as I work.
