You know scissor lady ... For the price of a round trip ticket and a pair of Fiskars* your problems can be over.

*Obviously, she has her own; but you wouldn't want TSA involved.

  5. I miss dirty, smelly coffee houses. The ones you go to where the music isn't awful and the people definitely were NOT yuppies.

I might actually have to go to a library to study.

    Dirty hipster.

  10. I miss Borders bookstore. A place I could go and study, there's a cafe if I wanted tea or whatever, large assortment of actual books, music section for when I want to just browse shit that I never heard of before, board games to look at and sometimes buy, just the entire Borders experience.

There wasn't even pressure to buy anything, you could go in and just get away while still being around people. Twas a simpler time....

Thus why we went out of business.
As someone who worked for Borders and watched it slide into bankruptcy, I wish people had thought of us a little less as a library and more as a place to buy books.

  12. I bought books too! ....and hung out. :)
But yeah, I do remember a lot of people taking advantage.

I still need a physical book in front of me. The digital thing just doesn't do it for me.

Portland still has Powell's (the best bookstore in the country); DC has Politics and Prose and many cities have great independent book stores with strong community connections that will outlive the Kindle!

    It's not going anywhere.

  17. We have a small Powells here in Chicago....feels like such a tease. Whenever I'm in Portland, I always drop by. Love that place. Never been to DC tho. Thanks for the tip.
