Yes, likely...they did it with the other guy that was another DBA. Gone. Bam. However, I will say that I was holding him up...but they didn't know that. I didn't throw him under the bus.
Nice guy, good DBA...just wasn't as strong on MSSQL and his work habits were lax. (late, slept in chair, eating huge meals, etc) I don't judge, but we were at a client site. (I was only concerned because he was representing both of us)
But they had no idea...as far as they were concerned...The client said that our company was still there because of us...not the others they had brought in.

I'm addition I'm pissed that I was the first one across the breach, got them in and running...got all our associates up and running.
Gave them inside info on the client dynamic and style...what softwares they really were using and how. (they were oblivious...you could tell by what specs they were gunning for when they picked me up)
They had me negotiate at the client site escorting "not so hot" associates out the door when they failed. (poor recruiting on their part)
The "project manger" (not on project, nor did he manage at all) even tried to insinuate that the COTR (client rep) was in conspiracy vs. him....when it was he that was fucking up and manipulating things.
And I think the client figured out who the company's inside player was. (kickbacks, feeding them info and pushing for the biz) He got moved to a different floor and pulled out 2 months in.

I don't mind working hard. I don't mind being flexible. I don't even mind "business tactics" everyone does it.
But I do expect you to have my back.

Your loss, bye. I'll take the money for now, find a more ethical and stable company.
Unfortunately, this "at will" mindset that companies have, they have no loyalty anymore...you're just a body/tool. (even more so than it was in the past)

I think there should be a law about a company being so extremely fraudulent with their employees.
I understand the need for biz secrets, but they don't need to outright lie. But it would be hard to prove, the bar would be set high.

Oh, sure, I can handle another 12 hours of work. No, no...I'll take it now instead of Tuesday, when I was supposed to be finished the 40-hour project I'm already currently "rushing."

To my next door neighbor who needs to blast hip hop as part of her morning routine; I understand really I do.
Music gets me going to, I even like hip hop and it's eight am which really isn't that unreasonable an hour.
But the walls are paper thin ( which is why I listen to my music and TV through headphones) and I haven't slept in two days.

Yes, thank you. This is the perfect time to fix/replace the furnace right next to (practically inside) my office. (Literally within ten feet of me.)

My project manager pulled another stunt on me last night.
Threw me into a client's interview with no heads up that I was going there for that...and no clue what they wanted me to do. (no context, no idea of which softwares or role)

You know there's a BIG difference between selling & hustling tech, with just the words and the concepts...and actually doing it...and much less explaining it in detail ad-hoc first-hand.
(it's like the difference between selling the car, repairing the car, building it, designing it or even making the components)
You can't just say JAVA...and you know everything, in every version, in every application you do with it. Especially if you're mostly in another role. (How do they know what's "doable"???)

So, I went back to the office...and told him off in front of the CEO. (The CEO was laughing...)
    No one lies to me.
Or throws me to the wolves.

I've done nothing but had his back from the start, represented him & the company well, kept him informed and did what he said. (Hell, many of client staff incl mgmt offered to be references for me even)
I've been the one who's been in first, kept it quality...and even did his dirty HR work for him. (escorting out another tech who didn't know what he was doing)
And he's either been a ghost in the wind, neglectful.
Or "spinning" stories on me...directly lying and rationalizing his actions.

Fuck it. Fire me if you want, but I'm not quiting, I'll take your money until I find something else. (FYI, there's no unemployment if you quit in VA...it's where you work, not where you live)
Fortunately, I just got the word some perm job that pays more wants me in for a 2nd interview...and others are moving forward too.
    Lies.
Sooner or later, they will haunt you.
Live by the sword, die by the sword.

And you wonder why the client is pissed at you??

Hey, all I'm asking for is this...Pay me, on time. Don't work me 90+ hours a week. Don't have me commute for 2+ hours. Don't lie to me. Let me know what I'm in for. Let me know how long I'm going to work.
I don't think that's all that much.
But it seems inconvenient to many.

I think I'm going to write a book called "Unrealistic Expectations"
Should be easy to get tons of material.

    Followup from the bitching above.
The "interview" I was surprised by liked me and is moving forward. :D

Doesn't mean I'm going to take it or stay.
But point proven and damn straight.

Oh yeah, the sales rep that I started was with yesterday and saw everything that went down,
said that he's now in charge of the account instead of the project mgr and (his words, not mine) he's a "pain in the ass to work with" and a "douchebag".

    Oh justice smells sweet.

But I know in reality, I need to have a new project quick...I can't hang-glide for long. (be on "the bench")
However, a bunch of potential gigs have moved forward.
BUT...since I can't trust anyone anymore...nothing counts until someone signs on the dotted line, you're walking through the door, working some hours...and the money is cashed in the bank. Period.
Sad state of the world.

If they had been smart and played it straight...I could have helped them make millions. While on the bench or even on project.
Why? Because I actually know the tech, not like the business devs, so I could interprets the bid specs, make recommendations, increase the quality of the proposal, make the win more likely.
That's what I did for other places.
    Their loss.

    No...I've been bitching.

I do need a hug! (And sleep. And unstructured free time.)

    Moar bitching:

Holy shit this book is too goddamn long! Why is it so long? I just keeps going on and on about the same damn shit. Gawds! End it already!

It's over 400 pages of boring. It wouldn't be so bad if I had at least a couple of weeks to work on it. I'm trying to finish it in less than a week because it should have been finished a month ago.

Seriously, though: These semicolons are being used as though they were ornate commas.

    Sheesh.

I just talked to the mom of the kid that gave me this crud. He was diagnosed with the flu on Friday and his whole family got it. That might explain the 103+ fever I had on Friday night. Who knows.

No no no no! Flu shots are to prevent the flu. Not give it to you. I feel rotten.

I'd love to stay in bed the rest of the night, but that's not an option. Wheeeeeeee!
