    A 400+ page proofreading project (that will likely be a light copyediting project) just dropped into my lap. (It should have gotten to me last month.) This is on top of a copyediting project I have due in a couple of weeks. You know, the one I haven't been able to work on enough because I keep getting reports to work on.

    The thing is a damn monster. The project editor was all, like, "Take a quick glance at it." Well, if I were to do a proper proofread, it would take me between 50 and 70 hours. Taking only 40 is pushing it. Shooting for 30 hours would be considered breakneck speed. What the fuck is a "quick glance" on a 100,000+ word book? I'm already working on a 100,000+ word book.

    I shouldn't even be going on a "working vacation." All I'm going to do is sit somewhere tapping at a laptop most of the time.

    At this rate, the summer will be over by the time I can enjoy it.

    I'm having a hell of a time getting used to being the downstairs apartment in a really noisy neighborhood.
    It doesn't help that the upstairs neighbors seem to like to to take long showers at one in the morning, I can hear every step they take, I'm pretty sure they had sex for an hour last night, and I hear when they flush the toilet.
    I've invested in high quality ear plugs but that's only good for when I'm asleep.
    I guess I will get used to it but after so many years of not having to, it's hard.

    I used to be an organic chemist, so tetrahedrons are my specialty. Symmetric, asymmetric, you name it. :)

    Pity there isn't much call for tetrahedron experts these days.
