So my husband's been doing more of the driving lately, as he quite literally does not have a clue where he is sometimes, since I do most of it, most of the time. It's been an experience. I know it should help him learn more of the geography of the metro area, but it's super frustrating when we're standing on a street corner, and he says, "So that way is north?" when it is south. I then tried to explain the grid system of Portland to him (all the numbered streets count down to the Willamette, which acts as the dividing line between E and W, and Burnside divides N and S, so he can orient himself. Nope. That didn't work either. "I can't tell which way the sun is!" "I didn't grow up here like you did!" Sigh.

I do most of the driving because my wife's M-F commutes are long. The only thing I worry about is my wife developing a phobia of driving, mainly on the freeway. My sister developed a freeway driving phobia, which wouldn't be so bad except by BIL suffers from narcolepsy. Even when he doesn't fall asleep he goes into a trance.

Last time I checked, we were getting together to celebrate my birthday. That means I get to pick the restaurant, right? No, I don't want to go to Olive Garden. I live right next to a metropolitan area famous for its food scene. Why the fuck would I go to Olive Garden? How hard is it to grasp that at dinner time, it's easier to go into the city than not because traffic is going the other way? Shit, I'm not even asking to go somewhere expensive or James Beard award winning, though I certainly could! It's not Pok Pok (I'm pretty sure Pok Pok would blow their fucking minds).

GAH! It is not my day. The post office called me back about my misdelivered package. Apparently the carrier thinks I don't live in my apartment, and tried to pin it on the management. I went to talk to the management; they said that this has been a consistent issue with the carrier, to leave her a note, and to lodge another complaint if it happens again. All I want is my super-sweet custom Naruto cosmetics bag.

Jesus. Every time I think I've got something resolved to my satisfaction, nope. It's like playing goddamn whack-a-mole.

I have this to look forward to when I get to Toronto (better put: the outskirts of Toronto). I have to convince family that Kelsey's and The Manchu wok are not the only options. It's not that I am a snob, I just want to try new things.

The damn sores on my chin have came back again since I grew my beard out. I'm treating them with Clearasil, but I have a nervous tick where I rub them without knowing that I doing it. I need to dig through our misc ointments to find an effective one that isn't petroleum based.

The thing is, give the man a map and compass, and you'll never get lost. Were we in the woods, he would have no trouble. Something about urban landscapes seems to confuse him.

You might try Aquaphor. Petroleum jelly/Vaseline is actually non-comedogenic, so it's not going to make them worse, and it sounds like you do need an occlusive to protect the sore. Aquaphor has lanolin and chamomile derivatives that promote wound healing and soothe irritation. What kind of Clearasil are you using? 10% benzoyl peroxide, while effective, is also very harsh and drying. You may be making things worse by using Clearasil. Instead, try using a gentle cleanser to clean them, then putting the Aquaphor on top.

Thanks for the tip! I found the following in our medicine drawer (first four are OTC, last three are prescription). If any of them are suitable, I'd rather not add any more medicated ointments to our already sizeable collection:

    Cortizone-10
Triple Antibiotic Ointment (Kroger generic brand)
    Savlon
    Neosporin
    Lidocaine Ointment USP 5%
    Zovirax (Acyclovir) Ointment 5%
Clotrimazole And Betamethasone Dipropionate Cream USP 1%/0.05%

Aquaphor isn't medicated, and it's useful for multiple things. I use it instead of Chapstick and eye cream, for example, as well as on my feet when they get cracked.

You've got a couple of duplicates there--the triple antibiotic, Savlon, and Neosporin all serve similar functions. Also, are you sure they're all current? I find people buy these things and forget to throw them out when they expire. If one of your sores is raw, by all means, use some of the antibiotic ointment, but you'll still need an occlusive over the top of it. Lidocaine is for numbing, the Zovirax is an antiviral for cold sores, and the clotrimazole is antifungal. Don't use the hydrocortisone on an open wound; it is for itching and irritation like bug bites.

    Hope that helps!

I have two kids of my own so I'm not anti-child, and I've even flown with my youngest when she was about 18 months but there's got to be a way to deal with screaming babies on airplanes.
After the first two hours of his wailing cutting right through Kittie turned up to max on my Ipod, I really wanted to go all Samuel L. Jackson.
I realize the airlines don't give a good g-ddamn about the passengers comfort but there has got to be something the they can do to mitigate the sufsuffering.
