Found the perfect gift for my dad.
A book on fine tools throughout history for a retired carpenter who collects tools is ideal, yes?
Well, only if he doesn't already have a copy.
I swear it gets harder to buy gifts for people as they get older.

 

I have been a crabby bastard all day long today.
But I have an excuse.
The 2 hour t-storm with abundant lightning and thunder that had our kids screaming and kept us awake from midnight to 0200 today.

 

My wife's team beat us by half a point. Damn!

 

I hadn't planned on getting the book but I saw it in a out of print store and I just knew it was perfect.
They were cool about exchanging it though.
I am sure they've heard the story more than a few times.
I did find something I didn't expect.
There weren't any other carpentry books and besides, I was a bit gunshy at that point.
So I went over to look at the graphic novels and found the New Yorker's book of cartoons from 1925 to 2010.
My grandfather had a fifty year edition that I probably learned more about the Great Depression, politics, and social structure than I did from school.
Charles Addams, James Thurber, they're all there.
My dad loved it.
So sometimes I guess you just have to keep on swinging.

God damn underwear thread. I only post on TFP while at work because it's really the only time I'm near a computer. Sorry folks. I have a life and friends that don't live in the computer.

My own damn fault for ever clicking on it in the first place. Too naive to think that it would just be a discussion. There is usually a window when threads are just words.
