Well, and because I'll be unemployed, that's what it comes down to.

I was wondering about the move and your employment situation, but decided that asking would be being nosy.

Did I mention that moving SUCKS?

    It totally does.

The unemployment part is okay, though. I'd be unemployed over the summer anyway. Contract years here typically don't start until August 26th (my anniversary!).

Washington has no income tax, but has sales tax and Oregon is the opposite, right?

    Bingo.

The IKEA is in Oregon and there is now tons of tax-free shopping right around the airport, which is about 10 minutes from where we'll be.

Louisiana has both. Nothing pisses me off like having g to pay state taxes AND 15% taxes on my alcoholic beverages, 9% on regular stuff, 13% on food items. It's bullshit. And every Parish has a different tax rates for sales tax.

DAKA DOING VERY NICELY, THANK YOU

On another note....This the BITCHING AND COMPLAINING THREAD right!!
I pulled my car out of the garage this morning to meet a friend for lunch, somehow it didn't feel right, felt like the emergency brake didn't release....kinda' didn't roll easily, hmmm, WTF the R/R tire is FLAT......F**K) OK get my head together, get out the jack...lift it up, and since all my tools are in the studio/warehouse I need to use the little handle to loosen the lugs, good luck, the MORONIC FUCKTARD who installed the new rear tires 6 months ago must have used the maximum torque on his air wrench (I didn't watch the asshole as I was paying for the tires at the time) it took the AAA guy all the power in HIS air tool to get them off........so, bottom line....make damn sure that the lung nuts are only torqued to whatever the mfg call for, 80 or so # not 150, or you 'll be standing in the rain in the dark on I95 cursing....

Rolled my ankle in boot camp tonight, then decided to stay for the second class. It felt fine while I was moving around, and now it hurts like a sonofabitch.

    I am an idiot.

I picked-up the "free" rental car at around 8:30am. I needed the rental because I was told that our car wouldn't be ready until Fri. I put $40.00 of gas in the rental in anticipation of needing it tomorrow.

At around 2:30pm I received a call from the dealership that our car is ready. So why did we bother with the rental?

We arrived at around 6:00pm to pickup our car. They had NOT repaired one of the brake lights despite me previously describing the problem in detail, several times, to two service writers, on two service visits. Seriously? Do you people even listen to what the customers say? We left with the car, brake light functioning properly, at around 7:25pm.

The rental car (with plenty of gas in it), and our car, are sitting in the driveway. I'm tempted to drive the rental tomorrow to use the gas, and let the dealership deal with the rental agency.

    Note to self:

Do not take a job in, or move to, Louisiana.

Ontario has provincial income tax on top of the federal tax. We also have a harmonized sales tax of 13%. (Much food is exempt from that.) We also get taxed as much as $0.08 on a bottle of beer, as an example.

What would be bullshit is not getting enough in return. I'm generally satisfied with the services I get from the Ontario government (universal health care, for example).

    What does Louisiana offer? :D

The only thing I know about Louisiana is that it has New Orleans, gumbo, and Bibles—a lot of Bibles.

I had to look it up. Louisiana is 90% Christian, compared to the national percentage of 73%. Only 8% of Louisianans are unaffiliated/nonreligious, compared to the national 20%.

    That's a lot of Bibles.

Louisiana has humidity, heat, big-ass mosquitoes and thick drawls (of one sort or another).
Lot of good stuff, as well.

The advantage of charging a flat rate for regular clients is that you don't have to quote the work all the time. This is good for higher volumes of smaller pieces of editing work. It reduces a lot of the admin work that would be required. However, some of these reports occasionally annoy the shit out of me because they take way more time than they should.

It is that difficult or time-consuming to at least make an attempt to write a complete sentence? I shouldn't have to guess at anything. I'm only supposed to copy edit this shit.

Aaaaand you have just hit the nail on the head. I know in NC we already pay 'socialist' level taxes. We should get socialist level benefits, but there are basically none. The 'murcan way. Americans pay more in taxes, for medical care, than all other countries that supply single payer medical care... Then we pay more in premiums and copays than we do in taxes, and still get sub-standard service. We pay more, because we have to, because all the money interests have all of the attention of our elected officials.

  19. I have more catch-up work to do than I know what to do with. Sleep is not in my future.

I'm super stressed about my moving situation because the person taking over the lease from me hasn't come and claimed any of the stuff that she wants to keep (and told me which stuff I can/should sell).

I'm still 'flying blind' when it comes to my summer plans, which makes me super anxious (not having a set plan tends to make me panic, literally)

And, to top it all off, my laptop suffered catastrophic motherboard failure last night and my only replacements are a 7 year old Dell or a 10 year old Powerbook G4 (or a desktop, which I'm *really* not fond of because it's not portable enough for me). This of course happens 2 weeks before I'm supposed to graduate, with all of my notes and homework on it from the semester.

    At least it's Friday?

Hope you can recover your notes and homework, @ThePriseInferno , at the least.
