I'm just grateful that I'm not like my husband. He sees the world in math.

I hope that he doesn't stop to calculate angles, depth, volume, thrust, etc. during sex ;).

I'm guilty of that. 13 years of engineering school will do that.

I look at buildings and bridges in terms of stress and strain. Casinos are probability homework and cooking is a combination of chemistry, thermodynamics, and altitude calculations.

Good catch, I got distracted partway through posting that. I meant 'replace' instead of 'fix'. :p

That's pretty much it in a nutshell.

I'm glad I think of everything in psychology terms, not math.

Even out of this line of work for many years, I still find myself doing the same. Not as much as I used to, but I doubt it will ever go away completely.

I hate when people have an opinion about my profession that is completely ridiculous.

"Oh, I decided I didn't want to be a teacher because they give you the textbook and tell you what to teach and how to teach it."

Really? Cause I've never had that happen. I've been told, "Oh, you need to cover Romeo and Juliet" but literally no one told me how I had to do it. Additionally, I had to track down my own books. There was no textbook.

The few times I did have a textbook, nobody cared if I used it.

I can understand not wanting to be a teacher because you can't tolerate snot-nosed idiots, but hey, the profession is about bullshit tolerance if nothing else.

  10. I have mad respect for teachers. I watched three older sisters through long careers. My gripe was always with school administrators. So many have their heads firmly planted up their asses. They are the ones that drove is to our decision to homeschool. And my sisters endorsed that decision. Our kids have turned out great.

I have to say that you have a little more flexibility teaching Romeo and Juliet than the math teachers.
The freaking connected math books (more like booklets) required that you be at a certain point at a certain time of the year even if your kids weren't able to figure out the work.
    Jadzia hated those things.
She liked some of the work problems and that was about it.
She would make her own tests and lessons but write fake lesson plans to match the books.
When she would be evaluated she would adapt the day to fit the book.
It's an awful thing to have to do but it's how a good teacher handles bad curriculum.

That's definitely true. Most of the math teachers where I'm teaching mix and match resources, and don't rely entirely on the textbook.

  16. At a work luncheon I was at the table with my annoying coworker AND, by chance, the keynote speaker.

The speaker was having a really interesting conversation with the gentleman sitting next to me. The bitch kept interrupting them passing bread or coffee or just being loud and disruptive. The gentleman next to me was visibly annoyed.

She is so damn rude. I didn't have scissors, but I did have a butter knife. Unfortunately, I also had witnesses.

Something's got to give with my work set up. Two steps forward, enormous leap back isn't working for me.

I'm getting tired of explaining the tax differences between Washington and Oregon to people. $400 a month is a pretty good chunk of change to lose to income tax.
