I heard that. I'm glad you've managed to get it under control. When I've had a headache all day, I come home feeling like I've gone 10 rounds with the champ. Not to mention that I can feel really crabby. Unlike my usual cheery, pleasant self. :p

This has been an awful day. And the pounding headache was like a little garnish on top.

Starbucks was out of my sammich (I don't eat the bread) then forgot to put the wrap in the oven, after 17 minutes in the drive thru, and now I'm realizing that they fucked up my drink. There's no green tea in it. My headache is building and I can't drink more because then I'll have to pee worse on the way to San Antonio. So I've had 2oz of turkey jerky (all I had in the car, since I couldn't wait on the wrap) and 24oz of herbal tea. There is a thunderstorm in mah bellay. It's making embarrassing noises.
    Fuck this week.

"It's only money." - Someone with plenty of money to spare.

One of our vehicles went in for a routine maintenance and a few minor things. Some (not totally) unexpected repairs include new rear brake pads and a new water pump.

Our house has foundation problems. It appears, from what I can tell, that the drain pipe from the main tub/shower is damaged, and we're getting water leakage showing in the carpet in a closet & in the the hallway. It doesn't appear to be coming from the water pipes in the attic and down the wall. Patching a pipe in the attic probably would've been the cheaper & easier repair.

I'm all set up for two bookish conferences in June. Three full days of bookish nerdiness.... Yeah, $600 later.... :(

Sooo, I've not slept more than a couple of hours in the last couple days. I made the mistake of taking an OTC sleep aid last night. Spent the rest of the night wide awake and miserable. Any suggestions on getting a decent nights sleep?

Most of my suggestions might be too late for tonight:
No computer, tablet, TV, or phone screens for a couple hours before you want to sleep.
No caffeine after noon, limited intake before that.
Get some decent exercise, preferably several hours before bedtime.

It can help to have a calming routine to help you wind down. For me, it's reading but something else might work for you.

I also find it best to keep the bedroom on the cool side.

And a consistent pattern every night is very helpful.

In a pinch I've used 1mg sublingual melatonin. It kicks in about 30m after I take it and is out of my system in 4-5 hours. I have secondary insomnia, so I understand. The regular melatonin you swallow doesn't do shit for me, but the kind you dissolve under your tongue always does the trick. Plus, I swear by f.lux on my computers... It dims the screens automatically based on the ambient light in your latitude/longitude.

I'll see about picking up the sublingual variety. You're right, the kind you swallow isn't very helpful.

An app called Lux does something similar on Kindle screens as well, if you're a before bed reader like I am.

I really am getting old. I need reading glasses, bad.

I read, "It can help to have a calming poutine to help wind you down..."
