    You should not be allowed to instruct people on running a business and generally be a know-it-all on your cell phone in the United Club. At least not in the bar area. Go to the business cubicles, jerk face.

    You're in book publishing, right? Admittedly, I don't know nearly as much about that as I do magazine publishing. And over here, salaries run the gamut. A lot of people jump from pub to pub and are pretty cut-throat about it - but are making bank. I suspect one day that won't work as well. I'm not at a national pub, and the local/ regional pubs can't/don't offer the same kind of salary. However, there are still perks and benefits that come with the job.

    So, due to the computer outage at IAH today, I'm still in Houston until tomorrow morning. Three travel apps failed to notify me when my flight was cancelled so I got the very last seat on a delta flight at 6am. The United Club ladies totally saved me as I had a complete meltdown at the desk when I happened to stop by on my way out and asked if my flight was on time. It was cancelled 90m prior. They comped me a room, but I have to get up at 4am to make the flight. I wanted my husband so badly. I still do. They called a flight to Jacksonville and I almost asked to take that one... Hopefully I can still get out of ATL on Saturday, given the Tropical Storm rolling in.
    I swear, if the trip to Miami on Wednesday has any glitches, I'm going to freak. They have me booked on the flight home, next Saturday, but no seats are currently available.

    I do mostly literary book publishing (in Canada, at that).

    I've made my bed...

    And the industry is kind of reeling and roiling right now, so trying to get a "decent" job at a bigger publisher comes with its huge risks, if it even bears any fruit in the first place.

    I'm freelance now anyway. I need to navigate the bigger world out there to boost my income, is all.

    Or write the next Harry Potter.

    Whatevs.

    Up at 3:30 am in Houston after 2 hours of sleep. Damn you, Discovery Channel for airing Man Cheetah Wild when I couldn't sleep. Just landed in Atlanta. Training until 9 pm. I'm already an hour late.

    By the way, I'm claiming ownership of this thread until Sunday.
    I can't bitch about it elsewhere or my friends and family freak out.

    I see a blurb about Bulls tickets going on sale today.

    "Oh cool" I think "maybe I can snatch some good seats at face value. I love the NBA."

    *clicks around*

    "Wow, seats are available in the 10-15th row of the lower section for many games. AWESOME!!........err, what? SEVEN HUNDRED DOLLARS for FACE VALUE on a regular season NBA game?!?! Four hundred for non-prime games?!?"

    Looks like someone is watching on TV. Admittedly the last several years I've always gotten at least one game comp'd through work, so I didn't know what to expect. But that is just stupid.
