    My girlfriend's car emasculates me.

    And most of my friends.

    It's way brutal.

  2. Man up, Plan9 . There was a time when cars like that ruled the earth. Prius and Smart cars aren't cars, they are toys. Loud, nasty V-8s are the real deal. Deal with it. Eat some spinach, bitch.

Reminded me of this film -

I liked how R. Lee Ermey reprised the role in The Frighteners

  5. Some jackass in Jacksonville, NC tried to charge $249.00 to one of my credit cards at a Wilco. Chase declined it and sent me a message. Now I am without access to that account for a few days while they ship me a new card. I did check. No bogus charges were actually made, only attempted. Bastard actually had a card with my account number that was swiped at the store.

First really classy thing Chase has ever done for me. There is that. Pisses me off, but I will survive.

Shit, sorry to hear that man. Lucky they caught though I guess.

I'll watch just about anything R Lee Ermey is in. He really was a DI for Marine boot camp. Not sure if it was Recruit Depot Sd or Paris Is. or? But he is the real deal.

Full Metal Jacket is as close to a real depiction of boot that I've ever seen put out by Hollywood.

  7. Chase caught some asshat doing the same on my account. Ran a charge at Bed Bath and Beyond, which Chase declined. They called me within an hour or so and asked if I was the one making the transaction. Told them I hadn't kept the house all day, which is no where near NJ.

Chase does a pretty good job on fraud prevention. All card processors use sophisticated computer systems that score the transaction. If the score is too high it's probably fraudulent.

...except the one time they didn't catch the guy using my card to pay for tuition at a religious school on the opposite coast.

But, yeah, I've had pretty good luck with them catching idiots using my card to run up bills in Wal*Marts across the US.

If, after exiting an automatic toll booth without paying, you can't turn it sideways to keep the camera from getting your license plate, it's not a car. It's just transportation. ;)

My brother just reminded me this week that I did that once when he was riding with me in my Trans Am and I didn't have enough change. :D

I get annoyed when people respond to challenges of food security/production by stating that population numbers are the problem and that there are too many people.

This, simply, is wrong. There aren't too many people; there are people eating too much of the wrong food. There are too many resources allocated to the wrong things. People who are starving aren't "surplus" people. They aren't starving because there isn't enough food to go around, or that the planet can't produce enough food for them. They're people who are suffering from the worst effects of global capitalism. Ironically, many of those without enough food work in export agriculture.

Hunger isn't caused by a lack of food (there's plenty if you look); it's caused by poverty.

  11. I glad they caught this before I tried to use the card at some bar in Toronto in a couple of weeks. Which reminds me, I'd better let them know that I plan to be there.

I might not be going to Sydney, thanks to the professor who dragged her feet for SIX MONTHS when it came to contacting the clinical site to determine whether they'd take a student. Sorry, Lish :( I'm supposed to start looking for "Plan B," and I can no longer look internationally because it's too late thanks to her dragging her feet. FUCK.

Also, this case study sucks and she's my advisor for it. I can't stand this woman.

Yeah, yeah... we'll all switch to beans and the food equation is magically solved. Too bad developing countries like India and China are going through an industrial revolution like-whoa and their rising middle class wants MOAR, MOAR, MOAR.

Sure, we might have enough food to keep billions and billions of people alive, but their desire for a "modern" lifestyle is what is killing the planet. Can we support more people? Sure. Should we support more people? I say fuck no.

We are killing the planet and surviving on lentils isn't the solution.

I have many bitches and whining when it comes to debit and credit cards. First everytime I buy anything of real value here in Mexico, say a new frig. or TV, there's at least a 70% chance the charge will be declined. I'll call the bank and they'll tell me "yes, someone tried to use your card in Mexico for what looked at a major purchase." "Yes, that someone was me and you should have in your files that I live in Mexico." "Ah, I see a note from nine months ago that you would be traveling to Mexico." "No, once again I LIVE in Mexico." "oh, you were trying to purchase something?" "Yes." I've gone so far as to call the bank ahead of time to tell them I'm headed to Costco in Merida today ot buy a new sound system it'll probably be $750-$1,000 USD, get to Costco a few hours later and the cashier will tell me "sorry declina." Fuck! Ok. I now carry several cards so I have other options when one bank flags my account.I'm paying $120 a year just to carry an airline card though that card does allow me access to the executive lounge at pretty much any major airport.

The other problem I have is when I travel my card is declined. The same fucking bank that can't seem to gasp I live in Mexico can't seem to understand when I return home that I'm not in Mexico. I drove norht one time t retunr my dogs, who still live with me... long story don't ask, to my ex in the SFO. When I crossed the border into McAllen Tx on really rainy night in Dec. my card was declined at a couple motels. I gave up and just slept in my truck. I'd been driving for 18 hours solid and calling the 800 number on the card never occured to me that night. The next morning I called and was told... "yeah, says here you live in Mexico but someone tired to use your card in Texas." "You know your bank refused a charge in Mexico a few weeks ago because you... blah never mind. That was me in Texas." "oh, Ok I'll put a note in your file." Get to Arizona and the same card is declined at the gas station. Cash rules and I now have a hidden compartment built into my truck I use when carrying more then I would care to have on my person. Sadly motels and car rentals require a credit card.

I hate banks. Esp. Citibank. I'm about ready to rent a Ryder truck, buy some diesel and fert. and take out their main office. But that's another bitch for another day.

I hate this paper. I think I'd rather give a presentation.... that's the first time I've ever said that. I hate presentations, too.

The core problem: People need to stop trying to live like Americans.

In direct response to you: No, we can't support more people like Americans.
