White out weather conditions don't mean the same thing in the south. It's raining so hard I can barely see the blue suzuki swift in front of me at the stop light. When it did this yesterday, my car went swimming.

I've worn a size 8 shoe since I was 12, and now shoe companies have apparently gone and changed shit up. Harrumph.

    I dunno. I lost 1.5 shoe sizes when I lost weight... From a 9 to a 7.5.

Stanley definitely understands what it means when he sees me packing bags and carrying them to the garage.

See, I was thinking that might be it. But I wore an 8 when I weighed whatever the hell I weighed at 12 (110ish? I don't remember), and also when I weighed 240 pounds. The last two pairs of shoes I bought have been too big, though.

Granted, the only thing I can find on sizes changing now is on Yahoo answers, so that's suspect. I can't find the other links that said something about it.

Maybe I just have incredibly shrinking feet.

Also: poor Stanley :( He should come visit Cinna's Doggie Daycare. Treats, tummy rubs, snuggle time, Frisbees, and buddies to wrestle with!

My shoe size has gone up recently too. 8.5s are more comfortable anyway.

Has anyone else watched the video of a rottweiler being shot by police? I saw it on tumblr yesterday, unfortunately. Sort of wish I hadn't watched it. And I'm thinking to myself, this is the level of intelligence we are dealing with here. Reactionary violence. Not saying that all policemen are like that, because I know that they are not, but the fact that we are allowing fearful, reactionary morons who can't even handle the pressure of a dog barking at them onto any police force just pisses me off. The man they were arresting was cooperating and is probably out already for whatever bullshit reason they were arresting him for...they should have allowed him put his dog back in the car. What a brilliant fucking idea! No wait, it's just a dog, let's shoot it. Assholes.

It's the fact that these trigger happy motherfuckers are the ones we're supposed to trust to keep us safe that makes me angry. My 14-year-old daughter would have had a more rational response to that situation.

I heard the story and purposefully refuse to watch the video. The story already bothers me enough. I know I overvalue my dog, but I can't imagine what I'd feel like or do in that scenario.

I really wish I hadn't watched it, it was traumatizing. I don't recommend it. I mean, as docile and quiet as my dog is, I've no doubt that he would bark and lunge at a group of men surrounding me and taking me away. It's their nature. You'd think they would be trained in how to handle man's best friend.

I haven't seen it. I've heard about it and decided not to watch. Since I haven't seen it I can't judge but there's a serious likelihood that the officer was doing exactly what he was trained to do.

Seems like many law enforcement agencies have developed a reputation for capping dogs and children.

Perhaps it's a good idea to be taller than belt height if you wanna survive them coming into your home.

Or, your know, they could check the yard for kid/dog toys before they do some dynamic entry ninja shit.

We've got a little too much of the police mentality in the military and way too much military in the police.

No, fuck all that it's go in stomp on anything, anyone and get your guy and get out.

You'd think after incident after incident of really bad press like this or worse, how many times have you read where they broke down some grandma's door looking for a meth lab? Law Enforcement would take a step back, plan shit out better and double check shit.

I can't help but think it's at least partly due to the fact that they don't pay enough attention to the quality and temperament of the people they're hiring as police officers. I have some of them in my family, I know.

Say, I ever I tell you was going to be a police officer before I discovered the lucrative portable toilet industry?

True story. I guess it's the same industry: flushing society's shit for a paycheck and doing a lot of paperwork.

Lots of armchair quarterbacking. That was an 80 lb rottie. One bite could have messed him up for life. I love my dog, but I value a trained police officer more than a dog. As plan 9 said, that could be training. That could be that he has been bitten before and didn't want to again. Personally, I would use my taser in that situation. There were also a lot of people standing around, which creates another hazard when discharging a firearm. But we don't truly know what was going through that officer's mind and what he saw. There may have been an action from the dog that told him he was about to get bit.

Yeah, that was my point- the officer might have done exactly what he was trained to do.

So you've seen it? How much of before the "event" is shown? And there's lots of civilians standing around in the area? So family members, accomplices, friends? AKA potential serious threats to the officers? Where is the area? Who'd they arrest and why? Is there sound? There's a lot of variables with incidents like this one.

There's always two sides to every story. Often more then two in reality. It's difficult to explain the experiences of being an officer to civilians. There's not a lot of jobs that include having to physically remove all types of people from their homes and neighborhoods, many time against their will or with violence and locking them in a closed custody environment. Hell walking up to an unknown car in the middle of no where, basically demanding to see ID and vehicle documentation can be stressful.

The entire event is shown with sound. No civilians close or contributing to the event. There are two people recording it on a cellphone and they are laughing the whole time because it doesn't seem serious. I don't think anyone was expecting that to happen. The situation was under control and not chaotic. It could have been handled differently. 'Armchair quarterbacking' works both ways.
