Just fixed my hair finally and it feels so much better, a clean scalp feels wonderful on the hand (just don't think you can rub my scalp without asking, someone tried that once many moons ago and I still remember it).

  3. The best thing I ever did for my hair - which is wavy/curly and thick - is stop using sulfates and silicones. I use a cream cleanser for curly hair and silicone free conditioner and styling products. I wash every other day in the summer and every two days in winter unless I'm oily.

Question for those of you that use dry shampoo - what brand do you use? I've tried several and have never been wowed. Maybe it's the brand, maybe I'm doing it wrong.

I pretty much adore all dry shampoos. Not Your Mother's, Redken, batiste, tresseme, Oscar Blandi, Pssst, and the list goes on.

I definitely prefer the spray variety rather than the powder variety.

I picked up the Not Your Mother's when Ulta had a buy one, get one 50% off, as I wanted to try another product of theirs too that looked similar to an expensive hair oil I favor. It works really well for my hair, so I'm pleased. I won't feel totally gross when I go to the stylist tomorrow (though P. assures me she has seen it all).

I am excited to get my hair cut tomorrow. I am transitioning to long layers from an A-line. It's been a process, but after a year of growing it out, I'm almost there! I don't know how much longer I'll go, but it is the longest it's ever been.

I think I mentioned it in the beauty thread, but Alterna's sugar lemon dry shampoo is rocking my world right now!

I'll have to see if it's at my Ulta, and maybe pick it up if Alterna ever goes on buy-1-get-1-50%-off, as I could use a full-size kendi oil spray.

It may not be on shelves til September.

And oh baby, some great stuff coming out from Jane Iredale, Lorac and Urban Decay.

    Pretty exciting!

Time for another haircut! I need to remember to schedule them for Tuesdays. I usually wash and style my hair on Sundays so it's fresh for the workweek. I decided that I would skip my wash this week and let my stylist do it. My hair is so coarse that it really only looks a little greasy around my temples even after 10 days. I used dry shampoo to freshen up over the weekend, and I've been putting it up in various styles over the last couple of days.

Not washing and therefore not heat styling as often has been really working out well for me. Despite going a few months without a haircut before my August cut, I only needed to have 1.5 inches taken off to get rid of the damage that was there. My stylist was really impressed with my overall hair health. I love how soft and silky it feels lately; that's a completely new feeling. I have also come to love wearing it down, which is also new to me.

Oh! I forgot to post about the Lock Luster Oil Treatment from Not Your Mother's. I've been using it instead of the Amika oil I had been using, as the Amika is expensive. It works really well, and I've been impressed by the results I've gotten for what I paid.

I also find that not washing my hair as often is a good thing for my hair. I have been washing it twice a week recently. I don't need to use as much hair product, since my hair doesn't get as dry and frizzy. The oils allow my natural waves to turn into ringlets after a couple of days. And my hair isn't greasy-looking either, which I didn't quite expect.

Speaking of hair care, does anybody have any experience with these razors?
They are definitely less expensive than the Mach3 razors that have been my tool of choice for umpteen years now, but I haven't actually seen them or tried them myself.

I've been using Harry's for the last year. Cartridge as opposed to double edge single blade safety razor. It is really no better than the Mach3 but I like supporting a small business internet start up company.

I remember using a "safety razor years ago and lots of nicks.

This part looks decent - "$1.88 per blade cartridge

We switched to using Dorco razors a few months back. DORCO - Disposable Razors, Shaving Systems, Shavers, 6 Blade, Blades, Cartridges, Cartridge, Mens, Womens I like them. The Pace6 gets the job done with no nicks and the blades last quite a while.

I've heard people saying good things about Dollar Shave Club

I wouldn't mess with it. DE/Safety razors have a very steep drop off in shave quality, if you want to go back to older shaving styles I'd check out Badger and Blade for good starting points. They're not too expensive but they are a bit esoteric.

Personally I'm not a fan of the DE/Safety middleground, I either use a cartridge razor for when I need a quick lazy shave or a straight razor for when I want to take my time. Advantage of a straight is I can also do haircut maintenance with it.

I have been happy enough considering the price with the Mach 3 cartridges. They do last a good while and do an excellent job, especially if you avoid a dry shave shave with them. The fresher blades do quick work keeping my scalp bald and beautiful, and my periodic laziness of letting the afro grow (what some people call a "shaved head" or close buzz cut) extends their life even longer while giving my clippers the chance to play at times.

Paging the ladies. Humidity is NOT my friend, and lately we've had a number of foggy days where the humidity is through the roof. My straightened hair starts to wave and curl as a result. Anyone have any recommendations to protect my hair from this frizz-causing nightmare? There are tons of options at Ulta, but I am perplexed with where to start. I'm willing to shell out for a product that works and smells good--I add this proviso because while I LOVE L'Oreal's Elnett hairspray and I could certainly use it for humidity protection, I HATE the scent.

@RedSneaker, any suggestions? I assume given where you live humidity is a concern for your hair.

    You rang? ;)

    Humidity is a bitch here.

I can't recall if you said you were particular about specific brands or not.

Have you tried the Bamboo line from Alterna? The Kendi Oil Dry Oil Mist is good for taming frizz when you're wanting straighter styles. The other products in the line are more tailored for curly styles.

Bonus, Ulta will let you return it, if it doesn't work for you.

Good to know! I have a small size Kendi Mist, and I don't know why it didn't occur to me to try it for this.
