The Art of Negotiation

This thread saved me $131.25 plus tax.

I was looking for a large duffle bag to use for long trips on my motorcycle. Something designed to sit on the back of the seat behind me, in front of the tour pack. The local Harley dealer had some really nice ones. They were $175 originally, marked down 25%. That was still more than I wanted to pay, but I was still considering grabbing it. One of the store workers walked by and, calling this thread to mind, I asked her if they could do any better than 25% off. She said they could mark it down to 50% off. So they were $175, marked down by $43.75 to $131.25. The additional 25% took it down another $43.75 to $87.50.

How did I save $131.25? I stood right there in the store and called my dad about the deal. He had me buy two more, one for him and one for my brother.

Yup. No way I would've paid full price. I probably was not going to pay 75%, and even if i did I wouldn't have called my dad to see if he wanted in. But 50% off made me move three of the four they had in stock.

 

Can we advertise the TFP as a cost-savings environment?
