Are people still playing on this server? Been interested in trying a multiplayer server for a while, and this would feed my current addiction.

Haven't tried in a while since I got the "banned" message, just logged in and it seems like there has been some activity on a new map. I wish I had taken some screencaps of my old buildings before the upgrade, oh well. Feel free to join in!

Was going to check in, but now I'm not on the whitelist. Oh well.

Yeah, he took the server down and made it just for his guild. As of now there isn't a TFP multiplayer server :(

Hmm. I don't know what's all involved in setting up a server other than the basics, but it can't be too hard. Is there still interest on here if I look into setting up another one?

I'm up for it, I only have time for a few hours of computer gaming a week but I'd stop in whenever I had the chance. I mostly fill my free time playing/studying Go these days, that and football on Sundays.

It's not too hard, but you'll need to figure out where to put it. You could use a spare computer in your home, but that presents challenges -- for one, you'll have a dynamically assigned IP address that's a pain in the ass to figure out DNS-wise, and you'll also be limited by your upstream bandwidth. Home connections aren't intended for server hosting so the pipe isn't really designed to handle that kind of load (also, it may be against your ISP's terms of use, so you'll want to check that first).

My recommendation? If you can get a few guys to chip in every month you can put it on a VPS. Minecraft is pretty resource hungry, but Linode does 1 GB VPS's that should do the job. Linode is also who we use to host the TFP itself, and who I generally recommend if anyone comes to me saying they need a server for something. It'll set you back $40 per month for one of those, which is a fair amount of cash, but if you can split that among 6-8 regular users it's not too bad.

I was just poking around at XBox Live and noticed they have Minecraft now. Its an older Beta version but essentially the same PC game. The only difference I remember reading about were no sprinting and something about not needing to put stuff in order in the crafting box..or something like that...
I'm tempted to check it out, but I'm not really the creative type.

Yeah, they have Minecraft on everything now...

I play the demo version on my phone. You can buy a full mobile version.

I've just getting back into it again recently to take breaks so I don't get burned out on Diablo. They added a lot since I last played. Enchanting and brewing and a dragon and stuff.
