I used to drive a vehicle with one of those in it. Went well with a 3600 torque convertor and a 3.73 12 bolt rear end. Could just about pick up the front right tire when at the track.

I see my TV/monitor sitting on top of the cable box, the rear of the stand propped up to give it an extra bit of tilt with a paperback copy of Fundamentals of Astrodynamics. To the left of the cable box is a mini R/C helicopter Behind the TV is my computer and on top of that is a stack of vinyl records with original copies of reports from the '60s on optics for spaceborne telescopes (back when they were new I imagine that people would literally have killed for them, and a 1985 report on contamination sources and levels for Space Shuttle payloads. On the shelves below the TV and cable box, there are a multitude of books and DVDs haphazardly piled on the shelves. (from here I can see they include a DVD set of Monty Python's Flying Circus, a paperback copy of Lolita, a paperback copy of Foucault's Pendulum, an old hardcover copy of Where the Sidewalk Ends, and a paperback copy of The Rules of Attraction.) Many of the books are behind my alarm clock, so I can't see the titles. to the left is a scented candle that's never been lit (from the color I assume it's coffee or vanilla scented,) a pack of black and white instant film, and a Blue Snowball microphone.

My closet is open and a blue Snuggie is draped over the door. My overcoat fell and is bunched up on the floor My slide projector and Aztec death whistles need to be dusted. The painting over my bureau is crooked. There's quite a mountain of laundry piling up, I think I'm going to go take care of that right now.

In the foreground I see my glasses resting on the table so I can see to type this. Next to them is my beer, only half full.

Across from me are three older gents huddled around the bar. The one sitting has a pink and black umbrella hanging from the back of his chair, evidence of the pouring rain that is streaming down just beyond the roofline of this open air pub.

The other two fellows variously stand or lean on the bar. The one is largely forgettable in his sandals, shorts and nondescript shirt. The other is notable for his tattoos, socks and sandals, and three quarter length short pants that appear to be both overly large and hiked high on his waist. His gaudy red shirt tucked in to show off his phone holder on his belt.

    I love this place.

A cup of coffee. A laptop screen. My living room in the background. A view out the front window of a gray morning and some frost on the ground. A giant Bullmastiff laying in the doorway to my office, chin on the floor, surveying me and the three rooms he can see from that angle. Either he's tired because this is up early for him, or he's making sure all is well.

    He's probably just tired. :p

snow in entire office parking lot - i see it through the window

  9. Tuesday 8:30 am. on my way to my office. I'm 1st in line at a busy intersection stoplight. The car next to me is a mid 1980's burnt umber olds ciera. Both occupants ( I'm assuming they are husband and wife) both easily in their 80's. Hes in the driver side wearing wrap around sun glasses with a poodle on his lap and focused on the road ahead. She is also staring straight ahead, her body was rigid but her mouth, lips and jaw were extremely active.. It was very obvious that she was letting him have it, probably for missing the light. Niether of them moved a muscle except for her mouth or looked in the others direction the entire time we were stopped. He seemed almost indifferent, probably immune after all these years .
Observation. These are two very miserable people who are nearing the end of their barely tolerable lives together and just marking time till they die. I seem to see a lot of this kind of behavior lately. Perhaps I am just noticing it more since my divorce 12 years ago. Actually I am possitive of that. Just another in a long list of reminders of how fortunate I am, not only that I am single, but that I enjoy it so much.

  10. Street Pattern

    Street Pattern Very Tilted

It's 6:10 pm, and I'm ready for a long night. I'm in a room with off-white walls, gray rubber baseboards, and three windows, all with silver-colored miniblinds. The blinds are shut, but the lights from the parking lot outside peek through a little bit. The floor is covered with carpeting which appears dark gray, but on closer examination has threads of dark red, dark blue, and white.

The cleaning guy just came to empty the trash bin, and left; I notice he's wearing latex gloves. He plainly feels sorry for me that I'm stuck here all night.

The door, a pale wood flush door with lever handles, stands open to the rest of the workplace, empty of people since 5:00 pm. Next to the door is a glass panel, with miniblinds, tightly closed.

Next to that, a pair of heavy wooden bookcases, four feet tall, is mostly full of law books, bound budget documents, directories, and the like. On top of the bookcases is a clutter of family photos, spoons, coffee mugs with various organizational and corporate logos, and a bottle of hand sanitizer.

Above that, behind glass in a plain black frame, is an large engraving from an 1882-or-so issue of Harper's Weekly, showing men in top hats and women in long heavy skirts, aboard a railroad parlor car on a southbound train from Albany to NYC. On the left side, a man with large sideburns is looking up from the newspaper he has been reading. On the right, two nervous-looking women appear to be conversing in low tones. The upholstered chairs are arranged around the edges, rather than in rows, and the floor is carpeted. In the lower right-hand corner of the picture is a large spittoon.

There is a lot more to see here, but I'll leave it at that for now.

I see the exact opposite of my office's desk at work,
which is well lit, clean and completely organized...a check list near my mouse.

At home, in the 2nd bedroom, my home office, I let go...perhaps a bit too much.
Dark, keyboard lit by the screen...on the edges of my vision through my glasses...

A coffee cup to my right arm, drunk a couple of days ago.
And on each side, strewn piles of paperwork, mail and other paraphernalia.
A Kleenex box atop it, to my left. (aware the garbage behind me is full of tissue too)

Outside the open door that direction, I see out to the living room.
The pups on my chase, watching the flickering light from the movie on the flat screen.
Clothes pile waiting to be cleaned (maybe tonight, maybe not...)

I'm type A at work, type B at home.

    Thanks everyone.

    SP, lovely.

I am standing in a parking lot, waiting on a friend. The cars all look the same to me.

I see palm trees blowing in the delicate breeze.

My friend just pulled in. I want to kiss him.

My husband is clicking away at his laptop sitting on the coffee table, trying to write his defense presentation slides. There is a glass of whiskey in front of him, and there is a glass of gin in front of me. Tumble is curled up into my hip; her little face is peering up at me, begging for pets.

A nightstand to my left with OJ (might be a splash of Ketel One in there, shh), a very dark brown wooden lamp with a cream shade, a black and white vase with red flowers in it, and a box of kleenex on it. Freshly painted walls, three sides some fancy name for a very light taupe, the fourth wall a version several shades darker of the same color. Two vent covers that I still haven't gotten around to hanging up after painting. Five pictures of varying sizes and a mirror that I did hang back up, all leveled and measured to be centered and straight. A 50" TV with the pregame for tonight's game on it. A sixth large picture that I still need to hang. Dark curtains drawn closed. Another matching nightstand on her side with a matching lamp, jewelry box, and a sketch pad on it. A king-sized sleigh bed covered with a black and white bedspread and a 120lb Bullmastiff on it.

Three layers of blankets, a remote control, a beautiful furry face gazing at me, thin curtains, and Monday's episode of Sleepy Hollow. And, occasionally, the inside of my eyelids.
Oh look, apparently the other fuzz nut was feeling left out.
I see Maxwell. Really, really close.

Fresh snow, still slowly falling. Trees covered in snow and frost, roofs blanketed in white. Probably 3-4" of snow so far since last night, on top of the 1-2" that was already on the ground. A freshly snow blown driveway and sidewalk. A plowed street. Two teenagers finishing up shoveling a driveway. Most of the neighborhood quiet and inside their warm homes.
