You clearly haven't spent enough time around lounge singers.

So what does it mean when men like Craig Sager wear these gems? To give just one example for those can't picture his typical style -

I always enjoyed watching his interviews. Seeing what 70's sofa cover he wore as a suit was entertaining. Hopefully he will beat his cancer and be back on the court again one of these days.

It means he's trying to hide in plain sight by disrupting his shape via dazzle camouflage.

I was going to a funeral once, and my daughter was all like "Nice tie. It's like a leash."

If you've got to wear a tie to do what you do, it's totally a leash.

Ah, zen from a child born in first world luxury where self-expression is "a right."

And let's be realistic: Money is a leash. Everything else is just a fashion accessory.

In specific occupations the math is pretty straightforward: Suit -> Money, Money -> Suit.

Kinda like how you expect personal trainers to be physically fit, pornstars to have genitals, etc.

Exactly how far would Osteen have gone without his suit and Gap-style casual wear? Jesus, amiright?

Not sure about the first world angle there. Pretty sure the indentured servitude that is keeping up appearances is a developing country thing too.

No disagreement about the money comment though. My point was that wearing a tie for work means that you owe your livelihood to impressing people who give a shit about fashion accessories.

Any job working with the public, has its uniform to an extent.

If you are going on trial for murder, and were interviewing a lawyer, odds are you are not going to be hiring her, perhaps you would, but we are talking the imperial "you". On the other hand if you were looking for a tattoo, she might be your girl.

Can she put in a dress shirt for work? Okay, then who gives a shit about tattoos?

More to the point, every lawyer who has ever lost a case has been wearing a suit when they lost.

There's some proof to this in the ad for the online investment company where they put the group of people in a room with a sharp dressed guy who starts laying down a bunch of buzzwords.
Then he asks if they would invest with him and they are all nodding their heads so he turns on the PowerPoint display that shows he's actually a DJ for raves.

People will buy shit from a suit l

And many shitty backwards, misspelled tattoos were done by many a legit tattoo artist (even licensed!) with a commercial tattoo gun in a storefront tattoo shop. Your point here is..?

Success or failure has less to do with looking the part than you're suggesting. It's like saying the Axis Powers did horrible in WW2 because their uniforms weren't sharp enough. *

It really goes back to what I mentioned earlier about how the relationship between the wrapping and the product, the pleasures of conformity and the importance of trends.

    * Painful truth is that they totally kicked our asses in the uniforms department.
