There's really nothing you're going to tell a traffic officer he hasn't heard before. After about six months they've heard just about anything you can come up with- "Car's new to me the speedometer must be off" "These are new tires and they must be a different size making the speedometer read slower then I was actually going. "There was a bee in car" "The accelerator got stuck" "I saw a UFO and it freaked me out..." etc, etc, etc... seriously guys or gals working traffic hear it all and most agencies are trained to decide whether or not to write the ticket prior to leaving their vehicle. For their safety your vehicle info has already been reported to dispatch probably before they turned on the overheads to stop you. I seriously think the best thing you can do is be polite and respectful accept the ticket and go on with your life.

One thing I have seen and heard of repeatedly is people blame the officer for making them late etc... Yes it's the officers fault you left for your 20min. drive to work 5mins before you needed to be there. Some get down right belligerent. There's a ton of them on youtube. This is not a good idea but some people just can't stop themselves. Every citation I've seen have a place for officers to write "additional notes" on their copy and they will make note of any remarks you make. I was waiting in court one day while the judge finished the morning "traffic call" and one guy told the judge the officer made him late and now the judge called his name last so she was too was making him late and wasting his time. The judge calmly explained the bail amount listed on the citation was not the maximum fine for his offense, which is very common. She explained had he mailed the citation in or simply been respectful she would have accepted the bail amount of $125 as his fine and he would have been on his way but since he decided to be disrespectful to both the officer and the court she was imposing the maximum fine which was $1900. He stated to complain, loudly, and she quickly noted she also had the option of imposing up to 10 days in jail as well. At that point he managed to find the willpower to shut up. I really thought by looking at him, red faced and completely pissed off, he was going to be eating county food for the next 10 days.
