Agreed. But I'm worried more about what Mitt might do with the military then many other issues. Like I said I'm voting Obama too. But thanks to the State Dept. my vote now counts in Houston, Texas. So I'm really not doing much with it. But I'll never have to tell my grand kids I voted for "Mitt the Twit."

That's funny, because I don't foresee Romney doing anything significantly different with the military. I'm not particularly happy with what Obama has done with the military, either. Romney doesn't seem much like the dick waving type. I could be entirely wrong, though.
BUT, of course, it's very often not the man, but the man's administrative personnel that we have to really worry about. Makes you think we should know more about who they have pegged for certain positions before the election. It's a pretty significant mystery to leave hanging out there unknown.

We know that key Romney foreign policy advisors are from the Cheney/Project for the New American Century neo-con crowd and the guys who orchestrated the Iraq war - John Bolton, Dan Senor, Robert Kagen, and others. The belligerent and bellicose Bolton is rumored to be pushing hard for Sec of State.

Colin Powell recently said that some are so right-wing that the advice they give deserves "second thought."

"I don't know who all of his advisers are, but I've seen some of the names and some of them are quite far to the right. And sometimes they might be in a position to make judgments or recommendations to the candidate that should get a second thought," Powell said during an appearance on MSNBC's "Morning Joe."

Nice. Fuck that guy, I say.

I am finding it very hard, in this day and age, to have any respect for someone who is 'torn' in this election season. Let alone someone who is certain that Romney is their candidate. Can't do it. And I have family who are, indeed, voting for Romney. Not immediate family, but family. I need to get through this election before I can even think about sharing niceties with them. We are walking a fine line here and people don't see it. It frustrates me how many people just don't see it.

This election, if you ask me, is also a vote on Iran.

Shit my brother's voting Romney. He hasn't spoken to me this year and I've not made any more efforts to speak to him. He watches Fox News at home and at work. My dad's probably rolling over in his grave. I miss my brother but gez the guy can't even be civil. It's all you're "un-American! Obama's a socialists!" And the one I love most "You don't even live here any more you shouldn't even get a vote!"

Oh well. Nothing I can do about it. I sure as hell am not changing my opinion of Fox News, Rush Windbag or the GOP. Plus his Romney vote in Oregon likely cancels my Obama vote in Texas.

He's got a kid and I'm sure she's not headed to Afghan or any place not country club approved anytime soon. I'd be glad to tell you what I really think of these sons of bitches but I'd have to get all uncivil and shit.

Romney wrote a scathing editorial last year in opposition to the New START Treaty signed by Obama and Medvedev. The one supported by nearly every living Sec of Defense and Sec of State from both parties.

Or more likely, Bolton wrote it, given that is is just a hyperbolic rant, short on facts and long on attacks of Obama willing to cede US sovereignty to the Russians.

The right's obsession with missile defense is comical on the surface, but look at it any deeper and it's frankly terrifying. Faith in missile defense can mean only one thing. Forget the bullshit about Iran's non-existent nuclear weapons program, forget their fanatical support for the Israeli apartheid state, faith in missile defense systems can only mean one thing. If you vote for Mitt Romney, you are voting for a man who believes it is possible to win a nuclear war. There is no place in government for that brand of delusion.

Throw on top of that Romney already talking shit about Iran, Russia, and China, and you have yourself a real foreign relations winner. Hey-o!

  15. Obama.

The other side is just a wasteland.

Obama came in with big promises, but changed tacks and became a defender of many of the things that he campaigned as being against. He
has done some good things - Obamacare is an improvment over our current situation, though it needs a public option and not to have an individual mandate - and some bad ones - reigniting the war on medicinal marajuana (I dont smoke, but I dont see the point in burning money on this fight if states are regulating it), and doubling down on the "security" acts.

On the whole, I think that Obama has been between mediocre and good. In a bad economy, one would think that a mediocre president would not have great chances of reelection. However, like I said, the other side is a wasteland.

The other side is led by a private equity tycoon whose only priority is decreasing taxes for people like him. He believes that abortions should be illegal, that poor people need less help and that America needs more wars.

Don't get me started on his party. Its 2012 and these folks are still fighting against birth control. What planet are they on?

So yes, I'm going to vote for Obama, and I think that he is going to win. It won't be because he is a great president, it'll be because the other side is a wasteland. The lights are on, the music is playing, but there is nobody home.

Edit: My personal politics are Libertarian-Green. A strange combination to be sure. I believe that government should tackle community problems like pollution, global warming, etc but should be limited in its ability to compel individuals to do things to support those policies.

Stop subsidies for fossil fuels? yes
Have temporary subsidies for solar/wind? yes
Ban logging on publicly owned land? yes
Ban logging on privately owned land? no
Ban drilling on privately owned land? no
Require that drilling companies buy insurance or post a bond large enough to cover the cost of cleanup if things go wrong? yes (If you can't afford the insurance, you can't afford the risk.)

Shit, the GOP is so extremely absurd currently, (or absurdly extreme)
almost makes me want to write in Dr. Seuss' The Lorax, just to balance things out.

Sincerely, a former middle of the road really old-school Republican...

    P.S.
Yes, I'm still voting for Obama...because he more rational and realistic than the current options. (kind of like Charlie Crist reasons.)

If Romney is getting advice from John Bolton, that would be more than enough to me steer clear of voting for him.

i was already against romney based on his idiotic economic ideology. but...good christ, what a shocking collection of fucktards the right has assembled.

obama is a centrist. he ran as a centrist, he's run the show as a centrist. voting for him is like drinking coffee with curdled milk in it. but i'm going to do that.

lesson: gin and tonic and posting. one of these does not belong.

If I get off my ass and register, then I'm voting for Obama. And I'm doing this for one reason. Mitt Romney copied Barack Obama's "You Didn't Build It" speech, almost verbatim (the video footage was juxtaposed on the Daily Show and I can go searching for it if need be). To me, it makes no sense that Romney would make those statements the focal point of the election, and then contradict himself so blatantly. It screams to me that he has no idea what he's doing, or that his campaign management team is full of fuckery. So, my vote is Socialism 2012. And if Obama gets back in the Whitehouse by popular vote, then I won't feel so bad for my vote going toward a Socialist conversion of America.

You ought to register as soon as possible. I believe most states require you to be registered at least 30 days before an election.

As of now, I'm leaning Obama. But I have a lot of reservations with the way things are going.
