I was very startled to see the bolded word in this context.

I have been interested in synesthesia for many years; I read everything about it that I could get my hands on. I have even edited the Wikipedia article about synesthesia.

At first, I was sure I was synesthetic. But I eventually concluded that I didn't have it.

But I never, ever imagined synesthesia to have any connection to group sex!
