So basically the Ethic Code is toilet paper.
It's a start, but it's fluff. They're going to have to tweak it and put some meat and teeth into it.

But damn, even Congress laws and rules are followed only because the justices allow it upon themselves.
But they don't think Constitutionally if Congress truly can enforce them.

Basically, if a bad player wants to play bad, nothing can stop them.
    Time for an Amendment.
And I think even Congress and the states can agree on this one. (both parties)

    The posting delay is back.

    Edit: And now it isn't.

I know, it's affecting me too. Very intermittent issue, difficult to isolate and troubleshoot.

I'd recommend when posting, if you see a delay, simply keep it up, the app will save it.
Then check back later in a different tab, keeping the original for backup, you'll likely see your post.
This is how I'm dealing with it.

If you happen to post double, etc, I'll clean it up.
    Sorry for any inconvenience.

I just leave it hanging as is, and try to come back to the forum in maybe 20 minutes or so. It's not a big deal with quick & short posts, but can be frustrating with longer posts that include multiple links.

Senate Judiciary Committee authorizes subpoenas for Harlan Crow and Leonard Leo in Supreme Court ethics probe

I'm glad they're acting, something is definitely fishy.
There have long been ethics questions regarding these two men.

The GOP is being disingenuous protesting the vote and arguments.
Delaying, distracting, claiming nothing is wrong.

"Don't look at the man behind the curtain" "Why you bothering them???"

Really, there's not much the Senate can do, other than put pressure on them and highlight the issues.
Because there's no real ethics policy in SCOTUS. And the FBI doesn't have jurisdiction over this or SCOTUS itself.

The ultra conservatives really have found all the holes in the system and Constitution...and are leveraging them like crazy. (and skulking about it all, acting innocent)

I do wish we could put some limits on the Supreme Court.
Right now, they have carte blanche in power. Doing what they want.
And no limits in time either.

We're in a slippery slope era...

Having one political party in power to shut down any reform efforts sucks.

But we also have to remember making it easier to take action can be manipulated by both parties. Do we want to have serious changes taking place every two years?

SCOTUS. Now there is a real problem. Yes, they could adopt some tough ethics requirements with real punishment for violations...and down the road abolish them, or weaken them, or simply ignore them. We know the court will never (let's say in all likelihood) accept congressional oversight.

Former judge: ‘Clarence Thomas will recuse himself when Ginni flies’ — MSNBC

    All likely true…

    SCOTUS has been inconsistent lately.
Although, I will say…they’ve surprised us too.

They may opt to not review, allowing states rights to stand.
However, this has to do with the Constitution interpretation of the 14th amendment.
So, they will likely make a statement.

I’d say Alito and Thomas will definitely vote NO
We’ve seen their insanely consistent bias.

No way, Thomas will recuse himself, that’s not his style ever. Even with ANY conflict.

The 3 progressive justices will likely side with CO.

    That leaves the other 4.

Gorsuch even though VERY conservative, may actually side for it, since it’s for future elections, not just now or for Chump. And also not to contradict his own previous CO ruling and words.

Roberts more than likely will side with CO. Him being the middle man these days.

Kavanaugh tends to follow Roberts lead.

Coney-Baritt is a wildcard, but she tends to be conservative on moral issues but on political issues she votes for states rights, especially with future elections in consideration.

And some may not want to go against an amendment, being strict Constitutionalists…
And not saying the prez is not an official too
And not saying the Fed govt can’t rule on elections.

My bet, it will be 5-4 to support the CO ruling.
But it may even get all the way to 7-2, believe it or not.

Btw, MSNBC is fairly sarcastic and cynical and not the best source, but it’s a good question and debate.
I just don’t think SCOTUS as hypocritical as they make it out to be.
    * other than Alito and Thomas

Let's say the SC does hear the CO case, & lets the CO SC ruling stand, ruling for states rights. If each state is allowed their own ruling on 14.3, the states will divide along political lines, red vs blue. Which would have little effect on the Electoral College votes.

It's possible some purple states might exclude NPD Trump, and maybe some red states although less likely. Some blue states might decide to include NPD Trump.

I suppose the SC could -- although highly unlikely -- rule NPD Trump should be excluded. Should that happen, a number of states would defy the SC. I pretty sure here in Texas we would see NPD Trump on the ballot.

Well, I don't know if most would go to the extent that CO has...including the primary.
Most if they did use the 14th on Chump, would only do it against him in the General Election. (because to some, the primary is the purview of the party's decision, even though it's a Federal election step, but not required)

It's not the normal red/blue states that Chump would have to worry about, but the swing states...like PA, Michigan, Wisconsin, etc.
If Chump loses the ability to get votes in those states, he won't have enough Electoral points.
And actually, CO has been swing state in the past. It's not guaranteed to go Dem.

I think what Chump wants is to prevent a cascading state by state review. (because EACH review, stirs up muddy waters and puts negatives in the news)
But with this vote, I think you're going to see more groups sue to get him off the ballot.

I think the only one other than CO, so far, has stated that he was fine on the primary...but they'd vote on the General Election ballots later on.
But there are more than enough states that haven't even started yet.

Some will go through with it ASAP...some will wait until SCOTUS votes.
But either way, it's a BIG hit to Chump, with cascading waves and downstream turbulence.

Jack Smith added a Supreme Court specialist. Trump has the Missouri lawyer who sued Joe Biden.

Actually, this is very smart to get a SCOTUS specialist.
The process and dynamics of SC is very different than the normal court.

And SC judges respond better with those that are practiced with it and have interacted with the whole staffs, not just the justices themselves.

Frankly, I think for the ultra biased Alito and Thomas, in this case, any SC inexperienced lawyers would annoy the justices and wouldn't gain traction.
And even A&T would be even more annoyed, if it wasn't this case. They're not known for patience and tolerance.

Basically, it comes down to, "know your audience".

SCOTUS is probably feeling a bit punch drunk.

I actually see both sides...I want it quick to settle it and get on with the case
But I also see their desire to not push it and some discretion to get it right.

Problem is, American democracy is on the line.
And the election is going to be a mess.

I'm sure much of the public is already getting sick of it.

Behind the Bastards is an excellent podcast that covers the worst people in history.
His four parter on Judge Thomas is covers some stuff that really made me reexamine what I thought about the guy.
It change how much I dislike him, just gave me context for why he's so horrible.
It's worth the time if you have it.
The other shows are really good as well.

What's better, reality and actual justice and what's actually really the best overall for democracy and the future of the country -even if rioting and insurgency Amp up several points
Or the most conservative interpretation of the text of people who never knew for sure what the future would hold ?
I'm not educated enough on the actual legal language. But the general intent would definitely disqualify T.

Plenty of ppl will be extremely pissed off. Could trigger a new Tony McVey, or a few of them.
