If and when we redo the bathroom, I won't go travertine-too expensive. Solid wall enclosures are pretty inexpensive. Plus, the room is 5x7'-it would only need about 20-30 large tiles to enclose the tub and that'd look dumb in such a small area. The water seeps in from showering even though we have the very latest in wall decor to cover the hole-a folded Walmart bag surrounded by duct tape. :D

Joking, right? A bathroom should be built with cement board or another mold and moisture resistant walling.

I don't think it looks dumb, just a different size choice 12x12 not much different than those small little tiles instead of the 6x6, spin them on a bias and it is even more interesting.

Oh, I totally agree. It's way more expensive to install as well.

I really don't like the look of those solid tub enclosures. If you have issues with leaks, here is how to properly make a shower/bath leak proof.

I guess I just don't have any issues with tiles. My last few places never had mold or stains on the grout and I never had to change my caulking. I've had it in the past but not for many years. I think it may have to do with ventilation.

  4. I put two applications of something similar to this on, waterproofs the grout. Do it annually.
