I've never gotten into reddit. I've ended up on the site a bunch of times through Google searches, but I don't think I quite understand the value of how it works.

I glanced at it off and on for a very long time before jumping in. For me, the trick was finding a couple of reddits that I really enjoy reading most of the links on. After that, the rest are all filler.

Very different set-up, but kind of like finding a message board where a handful of the highest volume posters are entertaining to you, which causes most of the rest of the posters to also be a positive to you. If that makes sense.

I spent the two minutes to figure out how the site works, and now it's one of my favourite sites.

I love Reddit, and I enjoy the r/shittyaskscience subreddit, along with r/natureporn (beautiful pics of nature, not actual porn) and r/submechanophobia (pics and videos to torment you through your deeply-ingrained terror of submerged decaying machinery).

Careful with that. It becomes a serious time waster if you let it.

I am on Reddit from time to time. Generally I am looking at things that are either (a) local, (b) history related, or (c) law related. Also dataisbeautiful.

Notwithstanding my political interests and opinions, I stay away from subreddits about current politics.

That's what pinterest, reddit, tumblr, and, I'm sure, at least a few others, have in common.

The downside for me is that the the subreddits are often so obscure and have such specialised rules. Like a post gets deleted from the music reddit if you post a song you like on the day that isnt right for that song, etc

In general I think Reddit deserves its reputation for a certain type of person frequenting it (women issues, militant atheist, left wing, probably has a full beard...) but some of the places there are ok. I post on The_Donald a bit and browse a lot of the spooky/paranormal boards.

Guess who got on the front page of /r/all again today? :D

And in the #1 spot on a subreddit with over 6.6M followers?

I read a bunch of various subreddits, (RES shows 3 pages of subs) but even then I see the same content.

Favorites? Aww, AskHistorians, battlestations, bodybuilding (gainit too when I was worried about that), corgi, dataisbeautiful, Firefly, Flyers, Frugal (just to see what people will do to save .50 US), Historypodcast, homelab,, KitchenConfidential, metal, oddlysatisfying, swoleacceptance (#NOSWOLESHAME), techsupportgore, trashy, Unexpectedthuglife, whedon, woahdude.

My favorite thing in all of reddit is r/civbattleroyal (a sub-subreddit of Civ5). 61 computer controlled civs in an accurate world map, in their historical starting positions, with no human player interaction (there is one human player, he is in a nuclear sub surrounded by ice mountains). Every week you get to see the screen caps of what happened turn by turn and what the computers did to each other. Future tech mods mean we get to see Icelandic Bio-Humans, Giant Death Robots, and cybersubs take down Spartan spearmen who never upgraded. It's a highlight of my week to see if the Boers finally woke up, if Captain Morgan is going to take down Chile, or if the Austrailans will take out Vietcong.

Askhistorians is one of my favorite subs because of the heavy hand of the mod staff. Unless you have sources and are generally approved, your answer will not stay up. Read an awesome piece on why Nazi Germany never attacked Switzerland (and things about refugees I never knew about).

I waste more time on reddit than facebook at times.

One of my new faves is /r/pokemongo for all the help it's given me lately.

I've recently subbed to /r/wicked_edge for shaving and /r/jesuschristreddit for laughs.

I find wicked edge like /r/coffee, though maybe it's changed since I was in there last: either you own a straight edge or you're a plebe.

As far as razors go I see a lot more DE/Safety Razor posts than straight razor material, probably since there's recently been kind of a DE renaissance with a lot of good quality affordable razors hitting the market from Maggard and others. There's also a lot of posts just on soaps, aftercare, brushes, and so on.
