    Fremen, that's a great one!

A roommate had one of these when I was in first year University. I was very happy when my girlfriend (now wife) got a PC with Word Perfect on it (a Tandy 1000 running DOS - pre Windows).

Whoa. I mean, I'm sure I knew people who had one of those, I just don't recall ever seeing one. We got our first television with a remote in 1986 or so, when we moved into a new house. However, the Sony Trinitron we had--no remote, just push buttons for 13 channels plus 2 extras--we used that thing until the 1990s. After our cable operator expanded the lineup in the late 80s, we just hooked it up to a VCR with a remote and ran it on the VCR all the time.

I do remember my grandparents' television throughout the 1980s had a remote with only a handful of buttons (channel, volume, power) and looked like a fine piece of furniture.

That would be one of the differences between a wife and a girlfriend ... "When are you going to get rid of this shit?" .

I have full versions on DOS 3, 4, and 5, as well as OS/2 in a filing cabinet. I also have 8+ feet of vinyl albums on a shelf in the basement.

Hah, yes. Luckily my husband and I are at a draw--I own the vinyl, he owns boxes of old computer parts and cables.

This was of the utmost importance, but I never seemed to remember to slide the switch until Kaboom! didn't show up.

OMG!! Kaboom! I loved that game...I must have twisted that knob faster than anything until I couldn't hold it more because of the sweat.
(uhh...it's not a dirty as it sounds.)

That damn mad bomber used to drive me nuts.
And I got into a fight with my best friend who yanked out the cartridge right as I was getting my ultimate high score. (ok, I was hogging it a bit)

I learned from personal experience that Mario Brothers on the Atari 7800 loops back to level one after level 100. Of course it takes several hours to accomplish this though.

I was walking down the street today and noticed how many people were reading their smartphones, ipads, kindles, and other computer type devices.

Back in 1999 I bought an Omnisky Minstrel modem for my Palm V (shit you can still buy one for $9.99!) It looked like below. It was $299 on top of the cost of the Palm V and monthly was like $40/mo for service. It was data only and it had was internet in your hand on the street in 2000. I used Vindigo to know restaurant reviews, movie times, and all other information on the fly. It was awesome.

I could do surf, answer emails, VNC to a desktop, purchase something from Amazon....

One day I lost it on the plane... fell out of my pocket and I never replaced it. Now I rock a new iPad with LTE.

When I was in junior high, my parents were very excited about this:

There is an entire shelf of VHS tapes at my Mom's house, with everything from bungee jumping to talent shows to riding bikes to just playing in the yard. I loved to do my own filming when I was allowed, which always resulted in shakiness and zooming around at an alarming rate. Also, that thing got damn heavy after a while.

My senior year of high school, I used my first digital camera. It looked a lot like this:

Yep, the images were stored on a floppy. Our school only had two, and I had to get a special permission slip signed to use it.

Aaaand now, I can take pictures AND videos with my phone. I think I might start hauling around an old camcorder, just because.
