    Today is the only day I am in my home office. Flying to Jacksonville FL tomorrow to meet with a client in SE Georgia then drive to meet with another in West Palm Beach on Thursday. Back on Friday. Lots of travel for less than a full day of meetings. Today is filled with conference calls. Travel sucks, so non-productive. I really want a Star Trek transporter. Beam me up Scottie!

    I finally fell asleep sometime after 1. I think I ended up with about six hours of sleep. For most people, that would be enough. I think it will squeak me through today. Usually I prefer 9-10.

    I did a ride along in Anacostia with the DC metropolitan police on Saturday night/Sunday morning. A good portion of that time was spent in and around the Barry Farm projects. It was definitely interesting.

    I probably get east of the Anacostia River once a month with a project in a community/rec center. It is always interesting to be reminded of the disparities that exist among residents of DC.

    As much criticism as Marion Barry (no relation to Barry Farm) deserves for his personal actions over the last 10+ years, he has been a good councilman for Anacostia and has been instrumental in helping to revitalize the community, with both city and private sector investments.

    I know that you have been told your entire life that you are special and unique, but unfortunately, you're not. At this point, you are no different than everybody else, because you refuse to put forth the effort that it takes to be more than average. Although you have the potential to be something special, you're obviously not willing to work for it, and you need to get used to other people with lesser talent and higher desires passing you by. Everywhere you go in life, you need to be prepared for highly driven people kicking your ass and beating you out of everything you want. It's not my fault, nor the college's fault, nor the Governor's fault, nor Obama's fault that you're not succeeding. It's your fault. You developed a deadly combination of laziness and self-entitlement, and I fear you have a very difficult life ahead of you. There is nothing I can do for you. There is a lot you can do for yourself.

    I SURVIVED! The middle schoolers did not eat me. I am very grateful.

    All in all, things went well for my first time taking over the class. Not perfect, but I think it's a good start.

    I just read a friend's Facebook status linking a blog post outlining someone's list of 40 albums from 2012 that she "quite liked."

    I immediately thought...wow, 40? That's a hell of a lot. How many albums didn't make the list?

    What's astounding to me is that the last time I listened to a new album was Radiohead's King of Limbs from 2011. Before that, it was probably their In Rainbows from 2007. Before that? I'm not sure.

    That's right, the only new albums I've listened to recently were Radiohead albums. I don't even listen to that many singles. I catch tunes here and there, but I don't actively listen to any of it. Most of the stuff I listen to is older.

    It's not that I don't like new music. I think it's just that I don't know what's what.

    Is that weird? Maybe I'm missing something. I can't honestly think of anything newer that I've listened to.

    I'd like to say this textbook for my Curriculum, Assessment, and Management class is the dumbest piece of shit ever, but that would be a lie, as I've had worse textbooks. However, it is verrrry close. Yes, let's talk about Erik Erikson's psychosocial theory without actually mentioning Erikson. Yes, let's use a long line of anecdotes as to why this stuff is supposed to work in classroom management. Yes, let's plug the "institute's" other materials and capitalize the words "Love and Logic" (TM) repeatedly. Isn't treating students with respect common fucking sense? Ugh.
