  1. Finally starting to have "grrrrrr"-like thoughts about my job. Some stuff really shouldn't be rocket science and shouldn't be more difficult than it has to be...

This is what being married to a teacher is like, too. I bring home disease; I don't get sick, but my husband does.

Great lunch with The Home Depot today to finalize their funding for a joint project.

I think bonding over Kingfish as a great unknown band of the 70s sealed the deal.

    the_jazz,

What the fuck is up with this 20,000 character post limit?

Is this new? I've never received a message saying it's too big before.

I mean, I have to break up my 50 Shades poopoo review to post it now.

Plan9, you know I'm a computer-retard. I'm a scraggly beard away from banging on the top of my screen and hooting while cat video scroll through for me to forward on to everyone I've ever met. Jesus, I'm a bad GEICO commercial in the flesh, for god's sake!

In other words: [shrug] Fucked if I know.

But at least someone finally told you something of yours was too big. Hey-o!

I fell asleep at 8 pm last night. Woke up at 5 am, read for a bit, then slept until 1:30 pm.

...I guess I was tired. But now I feel weird. Like, "not quite here, might still be dreaming" weird.

I'm contemplating getting contact lenses. Maybe daily disposable ones I don't need to worry about. The thing is, I've never worn contacts before. I've been "four eyes" since I was a teenager.

Twice last night my glasses became a liability during kickboxing. They were nearly knocked off my head. My partners don't give a shit whether they hit a guy with glasses. It's like high school all over again. :(

This has happened a few times before, but they do tend to get in the way all the time: slipping down, getting dripped on, fogging up, etc. It would be nice not to have to worry about them.

After careful reflection, I have come to the conclusion
that the planet is fine. However the people on it are fucked.

    The Earth is not fine.

    ...

Been there, brother. While contact lenses might be a stopgap measure to help you enjoy your training now, they do have their own set of issues and they always beg the question: Why not just save up to get corrective eye surgery? Surely in Canada, the land of healthcare for everyone, a procedure such as that is discounted to the point where it is a realistic goal. I paid $3800 out of pocket for my procedure a few years ago, but I was one of those dumbasses that didn't want to play the US health insurance game. A lot of enlightened plans call it a "cosmetic procedure" anyway. Boolsheeit!

Are you so blind that you can't take them off to spar? I mean, a person within punching distance is clear enough to fight even if you're as blind as I was. Part of the "Shut up and take my money!" trigger for me to finally get PRK was that I had just started doing karate 20+ hours a week and I was tired of dealing with glasses and contacts. Glasses got knocked off, fogged up and contacts had a habit of stinging or being dislodged by contact. The only thing worse than getting your glasses knocked off is getting a contact knocked around the side of your eyeball... that shit hurts like crazy.

    Get your ass to Mars....

Technically, I'm not sparring (yet). These are reaction drills where the blocker takes a swipe at you. We don't do them all the time, but this sort of thing will become more common when the Muay Thai classes become more technical in the near future, now that the kickboxing conditioning classes are underway.

We have healthcare, but elective type stuff isn't covered. I looked around just now and I see places in Toronto stating $500 per eye, but that looks like some kind of promo and I'm not sure if I can trust such places. Maybe there's hidden fees. Other places state things like $2,500 per eye for certain procedures. So I really don't know. Either way, it's a bit more expensive upfront than what I'm willing to pay. Also, I'm going to hit that age in the next few years where the risk of needing bifocals is going to be an issue.

As I said, I'm not sparring quite yet. However, I am very near-sighted. For example, I need to be well within 6 inches to read something without my glasses on. I took my glasses off last night for about a minute after they got knocked while doing a reaction drill. I might be able pull it off, but it's not very practical, and there would likely be a safety issue due to my limited vision.

I haven't thought this much in advance yet. We don't spar in prep for competition or real bouts. We do this for fitness and fun, so it's more casual.

"If I'm not me, who the hell am I?"

Oh, brother, you're gonna get sucked in like I did.

You're gonna find yourself practicing shit in your kitchen at midnight when you get up to get another glass of delicious... uh... soymilk.

They can do miracles with the laser these days, brother. Example: I had an astigmatism that made me mega retarded blind and they corrected it 20/15 in less than five minutes. If they can fix my genetic-garbage eyeballs, I'm guessing they have a workaround for your problem as well.

Hey, just refrain from kicking up the V of the legs and you'll be fine.

...you say that now. Give a dork a fun way to focus his energy into something physical and he'll excel. You'll be punching faces in no time.

I gotta say, I'm pretty giddy.

Sorry, my irresistible impulse to register new usernames with variants of "Woods" as the handle gets the best of me at times.
