The Macbook I have is the Macbook2,1, which is the earliest design employing the Core 2 Duo chip. It's a design from 2006. I was just looking at Mac benchmarks, and the Macbook Air is twice as powerful as my machine despite its size. The Mac Minis currently blow it out of the water. Most Macs are now sporting i5 or i7 chips, plus the RAM they load into them is much faster than what I have. Add on top of that much better options for graphics, and this machine I'm using is really showing its age.

However, it still does everything I need it to as well. Though I do get a bit impatient with its performance. This is usually when I'm multitasking. Also, I'm not sure how much longer this thing will still be kicking around. It has so many miles on it, I can't imagine how much more it can take.

When I began my publishing career in 2004, the office had three Power Mac G4s (released in 1999 and discontinued in 2004). We used the shit out of those until they were gradually replaced with a couple of iMacs beginning around 2007. (The previous year, I got my Macbook.) These crazy G4 machines were able to run the then-current OS X despite the aging hardware. We were running goddamn Leopard on these things. We first went from OS 9 to OS X Tiger, which was a huge leap.

The G4 was the oldest Mac machine that was supposed to run Leopard. (G3 support was dropped at with that version.) So what you had was an old machine running the Apple equivalent of Windows Vista. The funny thing about that? If you asked the very same hardware simply to boot Vista, it would laugh at you as if to say, "You've got to be fucking kidding me." Mind you, the G4 at that point running Leopard was annoyingly slow, but they were stable and allowed you to run essential programs such as Microsoft Office and QuarkXPress.

Anyway...the moral of the story is: Mac products have fantastic longevity.

I was just looking around for a deal on a pc for my nephew. He has a Mac but wants to play games that only play on windows, so... Anyway the specs he needed were less than the machine I bought last year, so I looked it up hoping it was cheaper. For the first time in my life the machine I have now would cost more to replace than it cost a year ago. I'm flummoxed. ( or I got a really good deal )

Starting to feel better after that flu shot this week. Gave me a low grade fever for two freaking days, and a headache.
This years Flu vaccines have 4 virus strains, one of them is H1N1 again. I was glad to see the vaccine was out of Canade, Glaxo. :)

One of those mornings after sleeping so long and so hard that I feel a little like I just came out of a coma. But after some coffee and taking Simba for his walk, I will be rockin'!

I woke up this morning feeling all motivated for this to be an action packed Friday full of accomplishment. I had two cups of coffee and now I feel like going back to bed. *confused*

I'm awake. I've got to get stuff done today--bake bread, go to school, ship off some shoes that didn't fit, and finish up my schoolwork for the week. Fun stuff.

Off to work. Little Pochito will be there. A totally pleasant Jack Russell who bears his teeth and growls at you whenever you get close to his kennel. It's funny, 'cause once you get him out, you can hold him and he's fine. It's the funniest thing. I like to walk right up to him and start baby talking, that pisses him off but good. Little weirdo.

WOOO-HOOOO Got the stuff for the storage unit appraised and sold it within an hour. Most of it was worthless junk except for a small white box that had comics in them. Sadly. only one was worth anything. a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Vol 1 #1, in grade 7 condition (that means fair shape for a 35 years old comic book) Sold it to a collector for $850.00...which means I made $50 off the unit. Not a bad start for my first time.

  17. I do not want to do this GoTo meeting. It's just me and the facilitator. Mostly it's just practice for me because I have to setup a GoTo meeting in a couple of weeks and haven't done one in FOREVER!

Oh man, I miss Aussie humour. You can say things there casually that gets you sued in litigation-happy places like America. This stuff is absolute GOLD.
