Just obtained the FEMA Fundamentals of Emergency Management and FEMA's A Citizens Guide to Disaster Assistance certifications. Not sure what I am going to do with them, maybe put them on my Resume. Don't worry folks, they were free to take.

Personal pet peeve: When doing an experiment mixing plant DNA with animal DNA, always mention the species epithet of both organisms. You might have very different results when using Xenopus tropicalis oocytes than you would from X. laevis, seeing as how X. tropicalis is diploid and X. laevis is a tetraploid. Whichever you transform with a series of Arabidopsis genes, you're going to end up with something different... also, which species of Arabidopsis? I assume A. thaliana was used because it's the most commonly used in genetics tests, but there are no less than 15 species, each of which has a large range of ecotypes - all of which have overwhelmingly different genetics.
Come on, geneticists... make friends with a taxonomist and keep these things straight.

I've been studying storage technologies and disaster recovery online for work. If I don't show up for a while, it's because I'm in a boredom coma.

  9. When I worked for a health department I took a lot of FEMA certification on Emergency Management and Preparedness. I was important. The exercises were fun.

I'm at a trade show manning my company's booth. 40 minutes in to a 5 hour shift. I already want to shoot myself in the face.

Hah. I'm one of those that takes a major manufacturer's visitor badge and runs around the entire bloody exhibition grounds for meetings and such.

I'm already not looking forward to the amount of cappuccinos I'll consume in London next year.
