    About 10 days ago our toilet started gurgling and every drain in the house was very slow. I went in the basement and one of the cleanouts was dripping water. I put a bucket under it, realized the cleanout was only finger tightened and tried to figure out how bad I wanted to be bathed in sewage versus having a hefty plumber bill. Within an hour I heard the water suddenly drain, and I figured it must've been a temporary blockage. I unscrewed the cleanout and put some plumber's tape on the threads, went and bought a bigger wrench so I could tighten it properly, and all was well in the world of flushing and draining.

    This afternoon I'm getting out of the shower and hear the toilet gurgle again. Nothing is draining. I check the cleanout that had leaked previously, there is a single bead of water on it. Nothing happens for an hour. Then everything drains. I can reach almost to the last run of sewer line with my snake and there is nothing there. No current blockages, but there has to be something going on. I've been here over 4 years and never had this happen, now twice in the last two weeks. It has to be something in the last 6" run, or the run to the city sewer, but I don't have a wrench big enough to open those cleanouts. I really hope it's not tree roots between the house and the city sewer. There is only one small tree nearby that could effect it, and I wouldn't think it would be big enough/close enough.

    Looks like I'll be getting a bigger wrench soon.

    If I were MeltedMetalGlob, I would have a brilliant "Jaws" related pictorial for you, Borla. It would feature the tag line "we're gonna need a bigger wrench" as spoken by the late great Roy Schneider. And probably some malevolent trees and a reference to Ed's mom.

    Seriously, I have enough trouble sleeping that I avoid naps like the plague. If I I nap I would never fall asleep at night.
