I watched part of the first episode of The Office today on Netflix - will get back to it soon. The boss character that Steve Carell plays is something else. Looks like an office full of "interesting" people that has some promise for good storylines.

A balmy 103°F with a humidex of 110°F in my town today which broke a 101-yr. old record. Yesterday was like this and tomorrow will be, too. Yahoo!

I am totally jealous, even though I've seen Aerosmith about 6 times. Cheap Trick put on an amazing show...I should check to see if they are gonna play locally. Hope you had a blast!

You have to admit, Arnold would probably be down for this if there were Brazilian hookers & donuts the script was good.

I love the Age of Conan soundtrack so much that I often play it while I work. It keeps my mind tapped into a kind of escapism that helps keep me going through the doldrums of the everyday. It's majestic, romantic, evocative, imaginative, and inspirational. According to iTunes, the album has nearly 60 plays. That's nearly 60 plays since February...so about 3 plays per week on average. The opening track "The Dreaming - 'Ere the World Crumbles'" is fantastic. The singer has a beautiful voice, and she sings in Old Norwegian. It's awesome.

Yeah.... so today I found out that Anders Behring Breivik (you know, the Norwegian right-wing terrorist who killed 77 people and injured 319 in two separate attacks) used to listen to this soundtrack a lot and would meditate to "Ere the World Crumbles," as he felt that it's a good song to inspire martyrdom. He even had the soundtrack's music in the background of his "embrace martyrdom" YouTube video.

    TFP, should I be concerned?

Am I some kind of sleeper agent in the final stages of my subconscious programming?

I would be concerned if you begin showing an interest in spending more time outside of your apartment in large public places. Until then, I think you're probably fine :)

I'd much rather spend unstructured time in large places such as Azeroth or the known world during the Hyborian Age.

    Am I all right?

I remember as a teenager how it often sucked to be stuck where there weren't any payphones anywhere.

Now most of us have pocket computers, and free wifi access is becoming ubiquitous in busy areas.

You know, pocket computers that put my first desktop computer to shame. Compared to that machine I bought as a teenager, most smart phones now have processor clock speeds 40 times faster and at least 64 times the RAM.

    The future is now.

  17. I just wrote a thank you letter to a donor.....and her dog.

I really want to be old, rich and eccentric some day. So much that people thank my cats too.

It is crazy how things we would've thought were amazing as kids are almost expected nowadays, or we are shocked when they aren't there.

I still sometimes hit spots in the middle of nowhere IA where I'll go 5-10 minutes with no cell signal. I feel like I'm in the dark ages. :p

The "phone" in my pocket is more powerful than the desktop PC I owned five years ago. I feel the need to put "phone" in quotes in this context because, although it is able to make and receive phone calls, that is just one of it's many functions; some might argue it's the least of them. Comparing it with my first PC is an exercise in absurdity. Hell, there are pocket calculators that beat my first PC these days.

My current desktop PC has so much raw computing power that I don't even have a frame of reference for the damn thing.

When Jelly Bean drops later this month (possibly as early as next week if the release coincides with the Nexus 7 shipping, which I suspect it will) I'll be able to accomplish tasks by straight up talking to my phone. The voice recognition is significantly better than Siri's, if the many youtube videos are anything to go by. I can get directions by pushing a button and asking it, the same way I might ask another living, thinking human being. It's already capable of recognizing my face. I try not to think about these things too much; I work with technology for a living, and even for me the breakneck pace at which it advances is just too overwhelming to consider.
