  10. Are there no charities that can help him? I street collect for one that helps owners in crisis. Best for the animals because they stay in their homes - for some owners, they face the heartbreaking decision of giving up their dog to a shelter who can afford to help the animal - but then the animal goes through the trauma of being displaced and of joining the largest pack in the whole world. The pack that are patiently, hopefully waiting.

I know you dont have the side car yet, but I have seen a massive mastiff arse, and feel he could wedge in behind you. Protection of course. Doggles - and maybe a snoopy flying helmet.
As to the cost of side car - a Stanley Calender should do at least as well as one with firemen on.

It was an incredible year for art. In fact, all of the 1920s was good for art, but I have been looking at the year 1922 the last couple of days.

No, no charities around here that can help. I don't know if it's the same in England (I imagine it is) but there are many, many unwanted animals in our shelters and the shelters do not have a lot of money. This dog is old and its prospects would not be good if he were to surrender it. Of course, that is an eventuality he will probably be facing one way or the other. We do have compassion for the man, and we show it. We do not respect the way he resorts to verbal abuse and bullying whenever he doesn't hear what he wants to hear.

  12. Here, we have the RSPCA, and they do run a free clinic in London. We also have Blue Cross, and they run a clinic in Southampton, and another about 50 miles away I think. Both are rescue charities, and both help owners and pets in your clients position. Its a lot more cost effective to them than to have an animal in that they know they will have to donate towards its veterinary treatment after it is adopted. Far, far too many animals of all sorts in dire need - in or out of shelters. A few rescues in this area and one in Guernsey regularly go to Ireland to pick up dogs where they have just seven days in the pound before their lives are stolen from them. The Guernsey lady goes with a list, she has homes waiting. She said its heartbreaking - all the ones she cant help, the ones she has to walk past - but it would be stupid of her to overload her rescue, or to try and convince someone that they should have had a different size of whatever of dog than they asked her to get, knowing it was what they wanted. We also have PDSA, which does not rescue, but provides means tested veterinary treatment. I used to collect for Friends of The Animals who help with neutering and urgent veterinary help - just running a bill through a willing charity reduces it quite a bit as there is not tax on the bill as it is billed to a charity. There may well be one willing to help in this way - because who likes paying tax anyway, and its an honest transaction and a good cause. It is nice when someone you have helped offers to stand with us for a couple of hours collecting - but as with much in life, there are many who look only to take. I would be beside myself if my animal was dying and I could do nothing - heck, I am every time it happens. When I have needed money in the past, I have sold stuff, bits of gold (one day I will be reduced to flogging the bits of silver cutlery). Drugs on line are cheaper than my vet can get them for.
Can I ask, is it surgical or medicinal? I know its the age bit.
Edited because, I should have said, its obvious you have compassion for the pair of them.

Man, I still feel gross. Urgent care opens at 10. Think I'll hit that up. If they tell me it's viral, I'll cry.
