What the fuck is "hawan samagri" and why did my coworkers get me this for my birthday?

 

GO YOU! I ate Oprah's Favorite Pasta three times in the last two weeks, but I needed butter & cheese in it.

(I'm deathly afraid of brain injuries.)

 

I got curious, googled and found no simple 'what it is'.
My best understanding is that it is samagri which is used for hawan. Hawan is a vedic ritual, and samagri is a powder made up of herbs and roots of which a pinch is taken and put in a bowl. I'm not clear what happens next ... perhaps fire is applied.

I reckon it is one of the sacred objects you throw a pinch of into the Havan Kund (sacrificial fire), during the ritual.

The morning glories look beautiful today. My roommate's sword-tails mutated in the pond, with similar results.
