They are made with all of the same parts PC's are made out of but with a higher price. Same manufacturers. You can buy a PC and put hackintosh on it if you really want to give OSX a try.

But I then I get to wear a soulpatch and drink my $12 latte while discussing how superior French films are*

*Yes I am going for stereotypes, no offense intended for the Mac users like Amonkie and others on here.

I had a mac at one point and tried the starbucks thing with it once...

My machines that I currently use consist of a laptop and a desktop which does win7 and ubuntu. Kinda looking for a different distribution of linux to try out rather than ubuntu... win7 has been far superior to any of my expectations lately.

I love Win7 and have had a rock solid experience with Vista as well. Must have helped waiting until June 2009 or so (would have waited longer but older systems died and forced my hand) and letting them fix most of the nasty bugs and complaints from the earlier releases.
I was digging out my MS Office 2000 CD and looking through my collection of Windows Installation CDs - Win98, Win NT Workstation 4.0, Win2k, Win XP Pro. Somewhere I have Win NT server and Win2k Server as well. I even have intact Windows 3.1 installation floppy disks. Takes 14 I think off the top of my head but I would have to check on that.

Holy s**t - I already had Word 2000 installed and nothing else from that package. That was not doubt due to some previous table I made. It has been that long since I have even looked for it.

That sounds worse than losing a limb in a near-fatal fisting incident.

no this is for a work thing charting spill stations (used to clean up spills and such). I am more comfortable drawing the tables and altering as needed in Word than making it with a spreadsheet. Already tried that and it was not quite as flexible as the table option that I know.

    To quote this again...
This is the short list of parts for the 13" Macintosh Powerbook Pro as indicated on the Apple website, sure sounds like a PC to me taken out of context:
    2.4GHz dual-core
    Intel Core i5
    4GB 1333MHz
    500GB 5400-rpm1
    Intel HD Graphics 3000
    Built-in battery (7 hours)

whew! Sounds fun. I rarely use word or office. I'll type longer emails out in it prior to pasting them into thunderbird.... powerpoint now and then for reading slides to learn a few things.

4gigs of ram isn't quite modern anymore. If you buy that macbook, order the ram separately online and you'll save a shit-ton. I saved a huge chunk doing that with apple.

What's the price on that? I'm running 12 gigs of ram, I7 processor, and have 7200rpm hard drives (RAID 0), with a beefy video card for about $1,500 :)

As of right now - $1,199.00
Just not sure how much it is worth paying for a shiny laptop , The latest version of System (whatever they wish to call it now), and the snazzy apple logo though. I would like to get experience with Apple systems and that is why I think it is going through my head.

Use a friends or find a library with apples in it if you're looking for apple experience. Go to an apple store and see if they have any classes. Will it benefit you career wise to know it?

Not yet but I hope to do actual IT work for a job at some point. It is more about expanding my skill set to put it in Resume speak, and becoming as comfortable in that environment as I am with the windows systems.
I would visit an apple store just 'cause to play with things in a heartbeat, but that is probably a six hour drive to Seattle or Portland.
