I graded 12 final projects yesterday for the course I'm co-teaching. Some were so bad I just stopped editing. It took four hours to do 12. I went to bed at midnight and dreamed data collection and research all night. This was not restful.

Woke up this morning with a text from my GF, saying she loves me and that I'm the owner of her heart. It's going to be a good day!

I just watched the Robocop remake, it's nowhere as good as the original. But it's wasn't as bad as people said it is. worth a watching.

On top of the previous announcement...I think I figured out a technique I discovered before is actually so MUCH more. And potentially useful.

2 decades ago, in Physics Lab...we were doing a simple experiment, going through the principles of a simple electric circuit.
The "wow" factor to make it interesting, was connecting it to two ring magnets and aligning it to the Earth's and room's EM field.
Then a light beam would be emitted ...and the magnets would bend the light according to the power put into them.

All we had to do was, adjust the power in the circuit, watch the beam bent for certain points...and then write down the numbers given...that's it.

But I noticed that there was a bell curve to the numbers...so I said, "what if"
I took the number from the top of the bell curve and did a reverse algorithm on it....and figured out you could find what the Element was emitting the light beam.

It was essentially what a Mass Spectrometer does.
And the professor didn't even know you could do this...got bonus points for this. (it helped me & my partner break the Lab score record for the class)

But what was a fun story I've told for years (to those willing to listen and interested...)
I've been calling it a "mass spectrometer" because that's what it does...

But I realized that I was mistaken in my perception and definition...it's actually "like" a Mass Spec...figuring out the elements by the "shadows" in the visible spectrum.
But it's not using the Spectrum...the technique I figured out is using the Magnetic field and properties.
So it's a Mass Magnetometer (in truth)

The technique or device would figure out the "frequency" or "code" of a magnetic field to determine an element.
But mostly magnetometers are used to note the EM field or its strength or find ferrous metal...NOT note what kind of element is being observed or worked on. (at least, I haven't heard of them doing this...)
This could be a whole new thing...the potentials are significant.

I have to find my notes from the lab to recall the formula I used. (fortunately, I saved them...that formula isn't used to this purpose, like I applied it...I changed it a bit...time for a gold hunt  )
Spectroscopy has been around for a long time...we use it quite a bit now.

But this would be a whole new perspective to figure out what things are made of.
And IF this...what is other contexts could be used to determine Matter???
    Hmm...

I hope I'm right...it would be interesting to explore and pursue.

Dear Jack Frost, when I said that I would love to have a snowmobile, Covering my car in 3 inches of snow was not what I had in mind.

Football season needs to hurry up.
189 days until the Beavers take on the Weber State Wildcats. I'm sincerely hoping Damian Lillard makes it out for the game. I'd love to see that.
