I just saw my PhD advisor!!!!!!! He is visiting from out of state. And came to visit the lab unexpectedly. I had no idea that he was in town (usually he tells me these things). I was sitting here at my computer when all of a sudden I hear the jangle of keys in our lab and I thought "ugh, the lab ghost is back." Turned my head and it's my advisor! I haven't seen him in months and months! Gave him a big hug.

Saw part of a recent Baman film last night in the breakroom at work. Not sure where it fits in with everything and not going to check, but it featured this Bane villain and from what I saw Bruce Wayne wussing out and playing Clark Kent most of the film rather than Superman. Looked like Anne Hathaway also played Catwoman I assume judging her costume but what I did see of the whole mess was painful enough to discourage me from seeing any of the recent trilogy (?) in the first place.

  6. My kitty had dental surgery today. (He now has 3 fewer teeth)

Just got a call from the vet. He did really well and I can pick him up at 6.

I had to do the same thing with my Old Man Isaac. He lived 6 years with no back molars. He had a common disease where the gums attack the roots of the teeth. No more tooth problems for the most part.

Well, in theory, I'm not going to do any work for the tnext two days. (More like two and a half.)

Let's hope I don't come back to ton of crap. I'm kind of tired of working evenings.

There are two different ways of being a grown-up and being one of the players.

Some do it internally and intuitive. They make it seem natural, constant cool.
Some do it externally and learn by pain & suffering.

Both are equally capable and successful.
However, each expresses themselves about it differently.

The first...well, they like being a grown-up and politician. They "wing-it" well. They love the urbane cool.
Me...I'm the second...I'm good at it...I give good illusion...but it doesn't come natural. It is only a shell.
    I have to analyze everything.
    I have to learn everything.
    I have to express everything.

    I am a kid playing in a grown-up world.
I am a sincere person playing a politician.
I need to verbalize...when those in "control" expect quiet.

Inside I'm Daffy Duck, Outside I'm Bugs Bunny. ;)

Have six buddies lined up for a ride tomorrow. The plan is to cover 350-400 miles. We're basically heading down to the Illinois River and following it all the way to Peoria for lunch, then turning around and coming back up the other side. The weather is supposed to be 78*, sunny, with almost no wind. Perfect.

Getting up early means hearing the roar of the morning flights out of PDX. I like it. The sound of jets is like music to my ears; I grew up close to a naval air station.

I'm so close to the airport that sometimes I'm tempted to just pop over there and watch the airplanes.

PDX is a pretty user friendly airport IMO.

Plus they usually have some good Oregon wine and beer in the shops to bring home. I always leave room in my carryon for a bottle or three. :p

Good to know. I'm usually on Southwest flying free on CC rewards points when I'm going that way. :)

Hiding from the phone. Old lab member/helicopter mom keeps calling me asking to tutor her daughter. So far, I have 5 missed calls, 2 voicemails, and 3 texts even after I told her I don't have time to discuss anything today.

Stage One of the day complete (clean house, finish unpacking dining room stuff, get set for visitors). Stage Two (birthday preparations) is next. Stage Three (fix my chipped manicure, write) will follow.
