Maybe neither should been seen as role models, ever.

You're also asking me for a point in the PA thread, you know.

But they are to those who want justification to do what one wants.

Everybody wants to justify their crap.

I hear Putin is a popular guy with Russian men (and maybe women) right now, too.

He has certainly built up his superman persona. He makes George W. Bush look like a boy scout.

Don't you love spending 2 weeks collecting data, only to see nothing significant as the end result? Yeah...

You know what would beat all? If @Cynthetiq was actually some closet Wing Chun master and schooled everybody.

    True.

Those elbow blocks would be brutal—like punching a doorknob. You'd have to be pretty accurate though. I could imagine the punch slipping by and clipping your face anyway. With Muay Thai, I'm more familiar with redirecting punches, which often allows for closing the gap for clinch knees. (Or, in hapkido, maybe a leg reap or some kind of hip throw.)

So many options. But perhaps none so painful as having someone elbow your goddamn fist.

And available shins from slow kicks.

Hm, probably. What I did/do: For low kicks either a) raise leg to avoid, 2) use kneecaps to counter, or 3) pre-empt with straight kick to the moving thigh. Kicks to the body either a) raise leg to counter with kneecaps, or b) avoid by "carrying" the leg with your hand. For high kicks usually either a) move back to avoid, b) put glove on your ear for less damage, c) counter with elbow, or d) move in with punch to pre-empt.

I guess you could elbow shins on slow kicks, but I've never explored it so my movement would be way off and I'd probably hurt my elbow.

That, GM, is why they call it research. Brings back so many memories. The hardest thing is to train yourself to look past that stuff. It can be incredibly frustrating.

I remember the first time I heard that only about 1 out of 10,000 candidate compounds ever becomes a drug. And I was still crazy enough to go into pharma R&D. Must be something about scientists. ;)

Good luck the next time! It'll work out eventually.
