I really got to experience hapkido's samurai roots.

There's even a move for "flinging the blood off the blade."

Seems they are casting locals for extras near me for the tv show Revolution.
It says all types will be cast, but are specifically looking for people with:

    1. military & law enforcement experience
    2. townsfolk
    3. civilian
    4. physically fit
    5. and men and women with handgun, rifle and weapon experience
I'm not current or ex-military. I'm barely a townsfolk. Definitely a civilian. Not physically fit, at all. And the type of gun experience I have is probably not what they want.
Well, that list leaves me out.
There went my Hollywood dreams. Waa-waa-waahhh...

If you are interested in looking cool, check out Iaido - the art of drawing the sword.

Also cool is the Kendo kata... though I much preferred sparing. There is nothing as satisfying as wearing kendo armour and hefting a shinai (except maybe doing it with a katana).

Interesting to note: before WWII (and even for a bit after) kendo was less codified than it is now. I am told when sparring one was allowed to also strike and throw their opponents... anything to accomplish a "kill".

    Ah, the old chiburi!
Just remember that it's not a fancy twirl, just a single downward sweep to let the blood flow. (Economy of motion...)

    Japchae Very Tilted

Do not spill the rice wine vinegar on the greens while they are cooking. One tablespoon will do it. A glub will OVER do it.

Cool stuff. The first thing we learned was the traditional method of drawing and sheathing.

In Kendo, there is more focus on striking than finesse. That said, the kata really is about finesse and timing, it's just not as emphasised.

If you have any interest, I still have some contact with the Toronto Kendo Club.

It'd be nice if not every Jim and Jayne felt the need to be an impromptu expert on conflicts in other countries, and how to deal with refugees.

  16. Waking up in time to make yourself breakfast in the morning is a fantastic feeling that I had forgotten about.

    Must do this more often.

We did basic movements, and it included eight-corner/point overhead strikes. They actually have close ties to hapkido joint lock and takedown techniques when you parse the arm movements and footwork.

Hapkido is all about momentum, timing, and applying techniques based on broad concepts. There are a lot of "tools" at your disposal.

My martial arts plate is currently full, but I would have been otherwise interested. It'd be a different story if hapkido didn't include training in various weapons.

So what are the odds of Jenny McCarthy being patient zero of the global zombie apocalypse?
