I like things having names. My wife is annoyed by this, especially because the name for her car (invented by our then-young daughter) is "Sparkle".

My current iPod is named "Piliplok", for a city in Lord Valentine's Castle. I barely remember that book now, but I previously applied the name "Piliplok" to an otherwise unnamed section of a huge university apartment complex (now slated for demolition).

My previous iPod was named "Tralfamadore", after a planet in Slaughterhouse-Five and other novels by Kurt Vonnegut, but I was forced to come up with a new name for the current one.

Our wireless is named "Figs & Thistles", which comes indirectly from a Bible verse (Matthew 7:16, KJV: "Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?"), by way of similar words carved over the door of the A. D. White House at Cornell University. The conjunction of figs and thistles appeals to me.

Edna St. Vincent Millay titled a poetry collection A Few Figs From Thistles.

I have puzzled over this for a little while, and I still don't know what you mean. Cardigan? Jersey?

I'm displaying my age here but he's my all-time fave male rock performer of the last nearly 40 years. I think he looks terrific (healthy) and sings great, still. And it's pretty ballsy to cover a 17-y.o. superstar female's song.
Fearlessness is possibly my favourite trait about Bruce, beyond the poetry of his lyrics.
I like Ella (Lorde) quite a bit too, for her fearlessness and talent.

Thank you for posting this. (I was too lazy and only put it on my FB earlier.)

Which means that he'll be popping in soon. Your timing is usually pretty good (within a couple weeks).

I'm am so tickled at the idea of getting MM and Plan9 to sit down and toss back a couple together.
They probably have more in common than either would like to admit in re: philosophy of life.

  8. We could charge admission to MM v Plan9 and fund tfp for a few years.

Only about 5 inches of new snow overnight. More than ready for spring.

Fond speculation about the departed getting together in a happy place? I went to a funeral yesterday and heard something like that.

Last night, my wife said something similar.

I said, this has been an epic, monumental, amazing winter. If you complain about how long it's been, you're missing the point.

It's like a marathon runner complaining about the length of the course. It is what it is, man.

We've been downgraded to 4-8 inches. It's an indication of what a crappy winter it's been that I think this is not so bad.

If you don't feel a little thrill at a heavy snow forecast, even in March, even when you know you've got to drive in it, you're living in the wrong climate.

The fault in your argument, @Street Pattern, is that you're trying to apply logic to my semi-psychotic ramblings. I prefer to dwell in a fantasy world where it's always summer and the beach is just a few steps away from my doorstep.

Not very practical, I admit, but it's a warm and fuzzy place...:D

While mrs. joe shovels away mountains of snow from her door, she finally realizes she's living in the wrong climate...

This type of sweater (top, pullover, etc.) bothers people who don't like things wrapped around their throat.

  17. The latest installment of "Twitch Plays Pokemon" is really making me want to go back and play the Crystal version again.

For those interested (that don't already know), it's Pokemon Crystal running in an emulator that takes commands from the chat users. Kind of cool to see. They beat the Red version yesterday after a little over 2 weeks.

    Link is in the dooblydoo.

    ...

In other news, it's time to clean this apartment after some homework.

I sympathize. I've been hovering between the need to get things done and the desire to just sit down and relax.

I went and ran my errands. Wasn't so bad. TJ's had dried California persimmons (my favorite), and I picked up a cast iron skillet at TJ Maxx for 50% off.
