It's kind of bullshit, though. And weird.

    Love Actually, that is.

Just read about it on Wikipedia and it sounds good on paper at least. Having Black Adder in the cast is enough for me to give it a chance on that basis alone.

He's only in it for about five minutes, but the scene is pretty priceless.

It's not any different in the United States. Well, sort of. We're developing high-speed corridors. In fact, Oregon just got a new Talgo trainset. Unfortunately, safety regulations mean it can't go faster than 80 mph.

Company xmas gathering tonight. Not really a party. They buy the dinner but we have to buy our own booze.
I wish I was looking more forward to it. Would rather stay home and hibernate. Of course, I've been doing that for days...

Yes, but I own them. I'm currently destroying my feet in yoga (blisters on the bottom of every little toe from my cheap mat) and am getting ready to do more damage to them in CrossFit. They're mine, not much I can do about it. I've broken every toe but the two big ones.
They get me where I need to go, so I just own them. And I paint them blue or purple or my prostitute pink polish if I'm feeling sassy.

Never ever got blisters from yoga. How does that happen?

From the Federal Railroad Administration, actually. The current head of the FRA had a career in railroading before he moved into administration. Anyway, train tracks are given grades based on the quality of the track and the safety precautions surrounding the track. For example, rail can be joined together in two different ways--jointed or welded. Welded rail lends itself to faster speeds and is considered higher quality track. The higher the grade, the higher the speed. Signal speeds and signalling systems also play a role in how fast trains can go in the United States. In order to increase rail speed in the United States, a number of things would need to happen: we would need to upgrade a lot of track to continuous welded rail (CWR) as jointed rail is still used in lots of places, we would need to work on canting the track at the curves to allow trains to maintain speed, we would need to introduce pantograph systems as true HST systems are electric, and we would need to eliminate level/at-grade crossings. None of the HST systems elsewhere in the world allow at-grade crossings for safety reasons. Right now, HST systems in the United States require the use of complete blockages between traffic and the rails to prevent people from going through the gates when a train is passing through at high speeds. The Acela only runs at 125 mph, which isn't an improvement over the system it replaced (affectionately called the Toaster). Having enjoyed the Eurostar and Thalys in Europe, I know we can do a better job when it comes to high-speed rail in this country, but given the size and complexity of the rail system here, it isn't that simple. We would have to be willing to invest major dinero in a system independent of freight companies, as freight companies own and operate almost all of the rail in this country.

Can you tell I love trains?

    I live in flip-flops when I can.
I hate close-toed shoes... and the weather here has necessitated them for months. :(
    My feets are getting soft.

I have had two no-paint pedicures in the past year.

It is a blessing not to have to personally struggle to clip my own claws.

Prince Albert had to put down his cat tonight. It sucked having to talk to him via text message through the whole ordeal because i was working. Glad he decided to take her though. She looked bad. I know that place where he is at tonight. It sucks.

  20. A melody popped into my head tonight. I lost it before I could record it, and was sad.

Another one came to me shortly after. Grabbed my guitar and recorded it, and recorded the melody idea shortly after.

I guess immediately after I finish my make-or-break take-home final the creative juices start flowing. Can't complain, feels good.
