    @Borla,

It wasn't Amazon. And my order number was #___1143, the guy's order number was #___1144. It was literally right after mine. Like, no joke.

Same name, right in line in the packing department.

See my calculations about this on the previous page.

The chances that the next order is someone with your surname is about the same as the proportion of your surname in the general population, or the population served by that web site.

    Ok, now add this wrinkle.

Shortly after making fun of @Plan9 a little with my post, I get home and see a package on my porch. I was expecting something, but the size of the box is all wrong. I see that the address label is for the cute lady that lives in the house across the street. A cute lady that actually somewhat resembles @Plan9's current girlfriend (he'll love that I used "current"), down to the hair color. So because I'm also Not A Dick, I carry the package across the street. Where I see a package on her porch that looks about the right size for my package. I ring the bell and let her know that I believe there has been a mix-up and I give her her package. She notes that my package is big and looks better than her package, but thanks me for being polite.

    Yes, that really did happen.

NOW calculate the odds of that happening to both of us on the same day. :p

  7. Amazon/UPS delivery has been bad lately.

One of DaddySquirrel's packages got delivered to 1615 instead of to 1650. Our sweet neighbor brought it by.

It was stuff for the cats. He says he doesn't like the cats, but every week there's a damn package for them. I don't know what's going to happen when BabySquirrel gets here.

I order a ton of basic staples from Amazon, so we usually get a couple packages a week. I think this is the first time they've screwed it up. I chalk it up to the fact that the regular UPS driver has a helper this time of year who runs the packages to the door. He probably grabbed both packages and mixed them up once he left the truck.

  9. My friend was a helper one holiday season. Living in a college town, he had some saucy stories about some packages he delivered to coeds. I didn't believe a one of them, but they were entertaining.

Before we were married, my wife lived in a rented room in a house which had a very odd address situation.

The house was at 190 Lowland Carp Drive. (I mean, that was the house number; I altered the street name to avoid tangling with whoever lives there now.)

The next door neighbor on one side was 11 Lowland Carp Drive. The neighbor on the other side was 15 Lowland Carp Drive.

Apparently 190 was a survival from an earlier street numbering regime. When the numbers were changed, the then-owner of 190 refused to be number thirteen, and so kept on being 190.

Lowland Carp Drive is a dead-end street, with houses built in the 1920s.

In the 1980s, the street was lengthened a little, and some new houses were built. One of the new houses got the address 19 Lowland Carp Drive.

So not only is 190 wildly out of sequence, and an even number on the odd side of the street, but there is another house on the same street with a number that 190 could easily be mistaken for.

Very often, mail addressed to 19 Lowland Carp Drive was delivered to 190, and the residents of 190 dutifully redelivered the mail to #19.

Presumably there must also have been a lot mail addressed to #190 that got delivered to #19.

However, in all the years since #19 was built, no one from #19 had ever brought over any misdelivered mail.

Based on recent postings here, I guess that means the homeowner at 19 Lowland Carp Drive is a Dick.

My last two packages were delivered to my next door neighbor/buddy.
Both left on damp/wet ground outside his gate.

I blame laziness on all these misplaced packages.

Amazon has been on my shit list for at least two years now. I've ordered stuff from them and allowed 21 days for delivery. Paid the extra for the 3-5 bus. day shipping only to have it arrive 25 days after I ordered it and 4 days after I was already back in Mexico. Almost everyone I know has nothing but good things to say. This year a special someone here really wanted a dress and Amazon had it "in stock" for a decent price. I decided what the hell, the price was much better then it could be found down here so I ordered it. Placed the order two weeks before my trip and paid the extra shipping costs. Did it arrive? Fuck no. They did refund my $9 dollar shipping fee but I had to go buy another Christmas gift and now there's a rather expensive Roberto Cavalli dress sitting at my mom's house in Salem and I'm left trying to figure out if it's worth waiting until my next trip north or just send it back.

Seriously I'm done with them. This is at least the 4th time something like this has happened. Twice was for parts I needed to fix things with and this was a gift which left me hanging and in need of another gift. For me the min. delivery time to any address I use is 12 days. 3 to 5 business days my ass, fuck them.

I just looked it up. I've placed 55 orders with them YTD, 48 last year, 75 in 2011, and 44 in 2010. Including some scattered orders before that, I have almost 300 total since I've had my account. I remember two times getting something late. One was during a huge snowstorm and I got an email saying that due to UPS issues that it would be one day late. Probably 20-30 times I've gotten stuff a day early.

Any clue on how much of the stuff that was delayed was from other sellers through Amazon versus how much was Amazon direct and/or Amazon Prime?

I actually have a contact on another board that is a bigwig at Amazon (as in he has been in meetings with Jeff Bezos, says he should be a Director before long). If you have specific recent orders you are unhappy with the resolution on I could pass along the order numbers and see what he says. In the past he has been known to give more detailed responses for people and/or helped in other ways.

I've had one issue with an Amazon package and that ended up being resolved with my leasing office here because they are the ones that fucked up. They took the $200 off my rent which I regarded as a pretty major victory all things considered.

You know the one thing they are absolutely great at is responding to a complaint. I must have received five follow ups with "we really don't want to lose you as a customer" type messages. Not one offered to get my order to me on time but they all "wanted to help." That's just for this last order. Every time it's the same. "Make sure you check if it's in stock (check.) Make sure you're ordering from Amazon and not one of our affiliates (check.) Make sure you select the shipping method that best matches your needs (check.) I checked I've ordered 8 times in the past two years 4 of those were delayed or missed the target date by at least a week. Seriously I've decided Amazon and I are simply not meant to be. I hear nothing but rave reviews, my mom must order from them several times a week. She never has a problem. Jeff B. could hand delivery my next package and I still wouldn't count on them for future orders. I'm in the states every few months and when I'm there I want the stuff I order to be there. I don't want to wait three months for my next visit. Basically I absolutely, positively need to know it's going to be there and I'm absolutely positive I'm not relying on Amazon to make that happen... ever again. My sanity, what little is left, is worth more to me then dealing with this crap ever again and one lost customer in a sea of other happy customers isn't going to put them out of business.
