    Don't get used to it. I don't think they'll be doing that all that often this season.

    So. Yesterday I got up around 5 AM in San Diego, ran (and won, but that's only because of who didn't show up more than anything else) a 5k, had a bunch of productive meetings, went to the airport and got on a plane to Denver. Got to Denver, discovered that my flight to Chicago was delayed a couple of hours. Chatted up a couple of really nice guys that are doing an anti-bullying walk from the Bean in Chicago to New York in honor of Tyler Clementi (Suicide of Tyler Clementi - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia), which passed the time for all of us quite nicely. Ended up getting home at 1:30 AM after some extra delays. Got my 3 1/2 hours of sleep and now I'm here at the office trying to decide if I'm going to fire one of my assistants or not.

    Although I may have thought about it in passing, it really dawned on me today that I was virtually unaffected by the recession. Most of the time I've spent thinking about it was regarding how it affected others.

    i'd been feeling like shit all week. About a week ago i had vertigo when i was driving which scared the crap out of me. so i went to a doctor i'd never been to and he didnt give me anything, or do any tests. said there was nothing wrong with me. so i thought i was coming down with a cold.

    after feeling crap, but not too sick to be sick (ie. bedridden), yesterday was a downward spiral within a few hours. So i went to see another local doctor. It turns out i have influenza. INFLU-fucking-WENZA! and here i was soldering on, not taking any time off or taking the time of day to stop for a second.

    the doctor asked if i had a fever. I said, just a little bit. My temperature was almost 40 C and he was surprised i was still walking around.

    he said i should talk at least 2 days off and not do any work. Of course...i was back at work today doing what i do

    You're going to get other people sick, Lish. That's not very nice. For some people, influenza is serious.

    Seriously, as a teacher, I wish more people would stay home when they're ill. We don't need to all get sick because you're manly and don't need to rest. Depending on the strain, influenza can be highly contagious.
