it took 5 years or so to get reader reports back. i got the contract 18 months ago. i finished almost a year ago. i got another round of copy edits from a comrade who actually knows what he's doing in july. i just heard back from the publisher today after mailing them in july to see about changing the title and loading in the new edits. now it'll still be another 5-6 months, depending on how fast i work with loading.

    this isn't even unusual.

    Oh, wow.

There are more people living in my low-rise apartment building. (I'm not exaggerating.)

But we only have two bars. They're across the street though. There are several more within a 15-minute walk, but they don't feel like "ours," y'know?

  6. Was in Ten Sleep in the late 70s. Stopped to get gas, there were several old men sitting around a card table in the gas station playing cards. You don't forget things like that.

Headed up to Montana, where they have to look up vegan in the dictionary. Hopefully, we won't have to go out to eat. I am going to be on the lookout for a vegan beer.

Vegan beer? Isn't all beer vegan?

...or do vegans take a view that yeast is an animal?

Not all beer is vegan. Depends on what they use to fine it.

Like snowy says most beers (and all packaged ones) use rennet which is from the lining of whatever animals stomach they use. I have no idea what it does but it isn't for me. There are some really nice microbreweries up there and someone will be making a beer that doesn't have it.
I don't drink beer much (<1 per year) but I want it to be good.

Actually, if animal sourced fining agents are used, it's typically isinglass or gelatin. That said, lots of breweries don't fine, or use vegetarian fining agents. They may filter or use a bright tank. They may also use Irish moss, Whirlfloc, or Polyclar as fining agents, all of which are veggie. Sierra Nevada, for example, uses veggie fining agents. Most craft brewers do. In homebrewing, Whirlfloc is ubiquitous.

I don't use anything but Irish Moss for my fining, if I even fine.

    Interesting.

Whirlfloc is super refined Irish moss. It's amazing.

I stand corrected. It seems that down here, no one seems to bother listing the ingredients or won't tell me when asked.

  16. Realizing that singing is therapeutic for me. Dunno why, but it just makes me feel better.

    Sorry, neighbors...

Been looking forward to the Telluride Blues and Brews Festival since I bought tickets in March. The weather forecast is cold, wet, and generally crappy. Damn.
