So I've been in the town of Muscatine, IA twice in the last 12 years or so when tornadoes hit.

I was supposed to be there tonight, but decided to cancel my reservation and drive out early tomorrow.

In the opening scene the tan building in the far background is the Hampton Inn I had reservations at.

In some later scenes you see a tan brick building with windows busted out and people in the room with the broken windows. That is the hotel whose parking lot I was in the last time a tornado hit.

Hopefully there weren't too many injuries. More storms are predicted for tomorrow, we'll see if the golf outing and fund raiser happens or not.

  2. Just about to here here. Black as night. Better not lose power or cable. The Stanley Cup finals are on in 30 minutes.

Looking forward to a 12?-16? hour day tomorrow. I strongly suspect my knee will not approve of this idea of doing consecutive 16 hour days with not enough "sleep" just to pay bills, but I do have a plan in the not long past short term to improve things.

Trying not to laugh after my husband asked how many periods there were in a hockey game. Earlier he asked if it was halftime. I had to explain there were no halves in hockey.

Not going to argue with that at all. They work well enough for bulk institutional use but I never touch them personally beyond buying the malt flavoured ovaltine that I particularly like.
I do drink Sprite or Squirt but nearly anything else lemon or lime flavoured is very low on my list preferred or even tolerated beverages and food.
Regarding tea, it just tastes bad to me and I have tried numerous types. The Lipton tea my mom drinks was putrid and the Red Rose tea I tried to "break the ice" with a middle stage dementia client was almost passable with enough sugar to have a tea drinker shaking their head in disgust. It does smell good though if it better than that Lipton stuff.

If you've only had bulk-produced tea served in bags, then you have yet to give tea an honest try. Go to a proper tea shop and tell them your story. They may tsk, tsk you, but I hope they'll also give you a good sampler set to try.

Bagged teas are made from low-grade fannings and dust (broken tea leaves). Compare something like Lipton or (gods) Red Rose to a decent single-estate tea, say, a Darjeeling served black, and the difference is astounding.

Another way to look at it is that bagged teas are, for the most part, the remnants after the good graded teas have been taken.

Dude, you've been drinking remnants. (Tsk, tsk.)

Brewing technique is also important. Steeping too short or too long, or having the wrong water-to-tea ratio, can ruin a good brew.

Next thing I know Baraka will be telling us all that indie microbrews are the only beers worth drinking and that Jack Daniel's is sellout juice.

I can't wait for the Toronto party.

I had a dream that I was going to Martian 's in July, and when I got there his grandparents were shacked up in his living-room like Charlie Bucket's grandparents.

    It's a trap!

I'm a little bleary this morning. That was a hell of a hockey game last night. Apparently the Cup will be in my building in about 2 hours. So says someone who's in the know (and has the chops to prove it).

I just saw a guy proned out at gun point in the middle of I-80 (opposing direction from me). Not on the shoulder, actually in the middle of the interstate. Traffic was stopped behind them in all lanes.

There were 5-7 cops around him. Two were slapping the cuffs on as I passed. The rest had guns pointed at him. There were 6-8 more cops running towards the scene.

I bet that dude has a bad morning.

Last night at the bar we caught a glimpse of the party in Chicago. One of our friends was surprised until I reminded him that it was Chicago.
