    You actually counted? Lol!

Our trunk or treat went much better than expected. The El Dia de Los Muertos theme my wife chose turned out well.

Lousy photo, you'll need to zoom in to see the details. The second best photo is too large, needs to be cropped or resized. And both were taken before it got dark so the small lights don't show very well. And my battery crapped out after I shot a 59 second video, which won't post here.

So, I just got engaged to Stacey yesterday. Then we went out and picked out a ring. While I think the whole engagement ring process is a bit of a crock of shit, it was important to her. Also, she has never had a nice piece of jewelry like that and I wanted her to be happy. We did not blow the budget, and I kept my mouth shut. But I'm glad we got something she likes. She deserves it.

    Congrats to both of you!

And kudos to you for keeping her feelings in mind. ***That thought sounds better in my head than it reads on the screen; hopefully my meaning is clear***

She told me that she was pregnant with her son when they got married. She later bought herself a $100 ring. This is a woman who went back to school and got her bachelor's and masters in nursing (with the dtudent loans to prove it) while raising two kids who are both in college and have never gotten in trouble. They are not perfect, but they're pretty damn good all things comsidered. So yeah, she deserved something a little frivolous.

Congratulations to the two of you!:) The symbolism of the engagement ring is important to many women. Especially if they've been left holding the short end of the stick with a lot of empty or broken promises in a previous relationship.
If you can indulge her in this, and do it in good grace, she will appreciate you all the more. A ring... and setting a date... is important to a woman's sense of security and her feeling that (this time) she (and you) made a right free-will choice not under the duress of an unexpected pregnancy.
The engagement ring may be "a bit of a crock of shit" to you, but obviously important enough to her that she was willing (in the previous relationship) to put her own buck$ on the line in order to have one on her finger. And tell her that you're proud of her and all she's accomplished for herself and her family. :D She sure sounds like a keeper.:)

    Mentioning rings......

I have strong feelings about diamonds, namely that they are one of the biggest hoaxes ever pulled in the (modern?) history of humankind.

Certainly many people have gotten rich dealing in diamonds, investing in them, etc. We had a friend who was an experienced amateur, probably more like semi-pro, diamond investor who carefully built up a valuable diamond collection. My wife has a few modest, extremely modest by most standards?, pieces of diamond jewelry.

    Are diamonds actually rare?
    Hell f*ck*ing no.

    Think of:
    1. A large city, perhaps where you live, or near where you live.
    2. The number of proper jewelry stores that stock diamond jewelry.
    3. The number of large Big Name department stores with jewelry departments that stock diamond jewelry.
    4. The number of lesser department stores that stock diamond jewelry.
    5. The number of pawn shops that have diamond jewelry in stock.
    6. Etc, you get the idea.
    7. The number of cities where the two through six applies.

    Are diamonds actually rare?

I would love to start a successful Do Not Buy Diamond Jewelry For The Next Five Years movement. Watching the businesses, and the select few people who control the flow of diamonds, suffer financially would be fun. Excluding the collateral unemployment, that is.

Oh I did. Her previous husband was a bit of a loser. Apparently smart guy and artist who worked at low end retail jobs like walmart for years. See his kids for 3 weeks during the summer because Stacey made him. So I know she deserved something nice. I have asked her about what she wants as far as a ceremony .She has not given me a complete response yet
