    Mentioning hip hop, and rap.....

The last time we were at the tattoo parlor someone played their mix of songs. A few of the R/HH songs contained enough cussing & vulgar sexual references to last me a year (yeah, I'm a geezer, but I'm no prude).

There were four kids there, ages four to six (my guess). That bothered me. Maybe I am a prudish geezer.

Note: The atmosphere in one tattoo parlor is much like a biker bar, without the booze. In the one mentioned above it's like a family GTG, without the food.

I listen to a variety of music. Hiphop and rap are not my favorites, but there are definitely songs that I like. One of the things I appreciate is that rap is often political. It tells a story and talks about a culture that I have not grown up with but through music, I can help gain an understanding of. The language and cursing are part of it, the same as with the language on the street. For many people, if that's what you grew up with, that's what you know. It is hard with the n word being dropped in every song so I cannot sing along, but I understand sometimes the ownership of it.
Some of rap is braggadocio. Also a form of art. Take the song Starboy by the Weeknd. Full of bragging and lyrical chops to dismantle his critics and other rappers. Video starts off with him being strangled by a masked figure. Then he is striding through his house with a neon cross smashing stuff. It illustrates him killing off his old self and being reborn. Shedding his old skin. The lyrics reference cars and money. Name dropping various expensive makes. Lyrics like "star trek roof, the wraith of Khan ". The rolls royce wraith has a roof option with hundreds of tiny fiber optic lights in the headliner. Very expensive and fancy. Another lyric is "main bitch out your league, ah, side bitch out your league too,ah". Another brag about money and his sexual prowess. Maintaining two girlfriends and both are better than what you can get. While some may be bothered by the style of bragging, rock has a history of that as well. The doors covering old blues men sang "I eat more chicken any man ever seen." George Thorogood did a whole song about being bad to the bone. So I do appreciate elements of rap and its ability to tell a story.

There was a music manager at the Borders I worked at who phrased my feeling on music the best.
"If you can't find something to like in every genre of music, you aren't listening to enough music."
I certainly have favorite genres but I if you look in my TB worth of music on my computer, the 700 hundred CDs or 250 albums, you will find just about every genre of music.
I'm still having a hard time with mumble rap to be honest but I'm looking.
My favorite genres are actually mashups of genres like psychobilly which is a cross between punk and rockabilly.
Or Celtic Punk which is Celtic Folk and punk.
Or Norwegian Operatic Death Metal which is pretty much what it sounds like.

I had jury duty last month. I made it into the group that went to the court, but someone for the defense got ill, and we were released (never started voir dire).

I thought about :))not seriously, folks:p) showing up wearing a couple of **empty, definitely empty** handgun holsters, magazine holders, big ass knife sheath, etc. That might have been an interesting experience. The written rules for jurors don't specifically prohibit such items, but it would certainly not be advisable :D).

The last time Washington’s baseball team advanced to the World Series

It has been 86 years since Washington reached that 1933 World Series, although professional baseball, of course, wasn’t played in the District in all of those years. The last time the Nats, then the nickname for the Senators, played for the title, there had only been one World War. There were only 48 states. The cost of a gallon of gasoline was 18 cents...

  8. I feel like the 90's and 00's were about "awareness"; now people can't lie to themselves and say bad things are happening because people don't know on a large scale what is happening.

Interpreting each and every permutation of sexual orientation and every gender identity (including all the "Q" variations that have not shown their faces yet) as a separate sex would give the social justice warrior lawyers a major new cause. And all the suits probably paid for by public funds. To do so would mean that the SCOTUS was basically re-writing the Civil Rights act of 1964.

How about a "she-male" whose primary self-proclaimed identity is male. Does that mean that he/she can walk around in public bare-chested with her surgically created pseudobreasts exposed? After all. males don't have to cover their chest?

There were interesting and compelling points of law raised on both sides of the issue of "discrimination based on sex" as intended in the 1964 law, particularly by conservative justice Gorsuch who appeared to suggest he might agree on a "textual basis" that it covered sexual orientation and gender identity but, at the same time, suggested it might best be left to legislatures and not a "judicial function" in which case there would be little change at the federal level with no protection for gays/transgenders in employment discrimination but would seem to be grounds to uphold such protections based on sexual orientation and gender identity in the 20 or so states where state laws have been expanded to include such persons.

Several justices including Chief Justice Roberts made the point that these cases of employment discrimination raised legal issues and relatively narrow points of law separate from issues involving "bathroom laws" and other issues of gender identity that would not be impacted by the Court's decision in this case regardless of the outcome.

On the issue of suits probably paid for by public funds, workers who file a discrimination complaint are initially represented by the EEOC in disputes with employers, so yes, that is public funds but those federal staff attorneys are on the payroll regardless. More often than not, subsequent law suits like these three cases (two gays, one transgender) are paid for by groups like ACLU and others organizations that generally represent "injured" parties in discrimination cases when a case goes beyond EEOC to the courts.

    Added....

From the ACLU attorney who represented the transgender worker at the funeral home...

I’m optimistic about our chances. We need five votes, and it seemed to me that Justices Kagan, Ginsburg, Breyer, and Sotomayor were leaning our way, as hoped. Justice Gorsuch certainly implied that he thought our textual argument carried some weight, and that it was at least possible he will vote in favor of the employees. Justice Kavanaugh was almost entirely silent, giving very little clue as to his thinking. While Justices Roberts and Alito to me did not seem favorably disposed toward the employees and Justice Thomas presumably feels the same, we only need five votes. I think it is very possible that we will get them, in both the LGBQ cases and the trans case that were argued yesterday....
I am not an attorney, but I think his optimism is overstated.

I was refilling our small container of ground Aleppo pepper and spilled a few pieces onto the floor. Little Bit, our ancient miniature Dachshund, rushed in to lick them up.

I don't think she enjoyed her accidental "treat."

How can people be envious of what I’m doing
    Yet I feel empty

Right I’m just occupying my time
    Experiencing new things
    Getting things done

Until something fills my heart and soul again

    Don’t be envious
    You likely have something
    It’s all relative

I need to catch a wave
    But there’s nothing cresting
    Ride the curl
    Shoot the thrill
    Play to kill...

There's the BBC, and there's BBC.

In all my years of watching BBC programming on public TV, and being married to a (now nearly completely Americanized) Brit, I never saw the connection to tother meaning of BBC.

Yes, the above is definitely a pointless announcement.

The Jennie-O Ground Turkey 99% Lean/1% Fat really is seriously lean. I browned some in a skillet in which the non-stick coating is nearly non-existent, and I'm used to ground chicken & ground turkey being sticky, but the 99/1 required a little water so that it didn't adhere to the skillet.

My wife volunteered us to do a Safe Halloween. We'll be distributing candy from the back of the car at the church parking lot.

Part of it is decorating the car. Can we do that without her using her condescending teacher voice? No.
Can I control how POd it makes me? Possibly.

When I was a kid it was all about going out in the neighborhood after dark. Its a shame that the world has come to trunk or treating due to ignorant people and perverts ( meaning adults that prey on kids) I'm not saying their is anytging wrong with trunk or treating

So, despite the crappy weather, we still had 69 trick or treaters visit us yesterday. Saved us from eating ALL that candy by ourselves.
